Treasure hunts, space bounty missions, and mythological quests on your way
Adventure stories often follow a familiar rhythm: a crew sets out, a mystery appears, and the journey grows far larger than anyone expected. Some shows build their entire identity around that sense of movement, spanning years and seasons around the characters as they try to obtain that one great treasure. The pirate saga in the One Piece Live Action show captures that feeling perfectly, though the renewed attention around the franchise also comes from how well creators translated the story to screen. Anime adaptations into live action often collapse under the weight of exaggerated worlds and characters, yet this one manages to retain the humour, emotional beats, and spirit of adventure that made the original beloved.
From anime epics about alchemists and hunters to live-action series about pirates, bounty hunters, and time travellers, the shows below share that same restless energy. Each sends its characters chasing treasure, survival, redemption, or something even bigger across worlds that never stay still for long.

One Piece: The Anime
This of course, is the obvious choice. The anime adaptation of One Piece by Eiichiro Oda follows Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew as they sail across the Grand Line searching for the legendary treasure known as the One Piece. Every island introduces a new culture, villain, or mystery, turning the show into a massive adventure saga that blends absurd comedy, emotional backstories, and sprawling worldbuilding. Keep in mind though, the pacing of the anime is wobbly. Since the anime caught up with the manga multiple times during its run, the studio had to stretch storylines and insert filler material to avoid overtaking the source.

Black Sails
Where many pirate stories lean toward spectacle, this one dives into politics and survival. Set during the golden age of piracy, the series follows Captain Flint and a group of pirates fighting to maintain control of Nassau. Treasure still drives the plot, though alliances, betrayals, and power struggles matter just as much. It removed the rose tinted glasses with which mainstream media views pirate films and shows, and turns into something far more sinister.

Cowboy Bebop
This is a space western, noir drama, and character study all wrapped into one stylish anime. A group of bounty hunters drift across the solar system chasing criminals for cash. Each episode lands on a different planet or station, giving the show a wandering rhythm (and one of the best jazz soundtracks in anime). The crew’s past slowly catches up with them, adding emotional weight beneath the episodic adventures.

Based on the bestselling novels by Rick Riordan, the series follows Percy Jackson, a teenager who discovers he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon. His journey takes him across the United States on a dangerous quest involving mythical monsters, ancient prophecies, and warring gods. Much like other great adventure stories, the quest structure drives the narrative as Percy and his friends travel from one perilous location to another while uncovering a much larger mythological conflict.
