In 2007, Farah Khan delivered a flamboyant, star-studded spectacle that not only launched the illustrious career of Deepika Padukone but also wove a narrative steeped in love, revenge, and reincarnation.

Om Shanti Om simultaneously serves as a heartfelt homage to the golden era of Bollywood, playfully caricaturing iconic actors and familiar tropes, all the while maintaining a buoyant energy that captivates audiences from opening frame to final crescendo.

18 years since, Aryan Khan has clearly taken notes from his father's film except he has gone bad*** with his tongue-in-cheek action-comedy and dropped the trailer of the upcoming Netflix show, The Bad*** of Bollywood set to hit the OTT this September.

The much-awaited trailer that dropped today in partly drenched in a playful nod to the ways in which the mythology of industry is perceived by the audiences and partly the way is seen by the insiders and largely thrives on self-reference, drama, a lot of action, betrayal, and lots of cameos from the film industry. Written and directed by Aryan Khan, the trailer gives us a glimpse into the chaotic ream factory that is Bollywood.

At the heart of it all is a fresh new face, riding the wave of success from the film Kill, Lakshya Lalwani, who plays Aasmaan Singh is a fiercely ambitious outsider determined to conquer Bollywood and make his name above the myriad of stars. Guided by an ambitious manager and a loyal best friend, Raghav Juyal, Asmaan navigates stardom, scandals, and the constant threat of irrelevance.

But don’t expect this to be a feel-good success story. Aryan Khan’s vision is laced with mockery of industry clichés, punchy one-liners, and a sense of humor that often borders on biting. From quirky auditions to ego clashes, diva behaviour, and "friendly" betrayals — the trailer teases it all often taking aid of humour to depict the inner workings of the business.

The series tracks the journey of Asmaan as a rising star, an outsider trying to navigate his way into an industry while slowly revealing the many faces beyond glamour and success. One that needs him to "act" more than he anticipated as he finds himself getting caught up in unexpected politics and scandals.

At one point, Asmaan is shown in the trailer to be telling the daughter of India's biggest superstar, played by Bobby Deol, " All I am saying is when you come out of your father's shadow, you see how harsh the world is," a bit self-referential one may say.

Produced by Gauri Khan, Aryan Khan's directorial debut literally has all the stars under the sky cameoing in the film. From Aamir Khan, SS Rajamouli, Karan Johar, Disha Patani to SRK himself, The Bad*** of Bollywood is certainly going to be the most talked about show this year.

The cast of the upcoming show that's set for a premiere on 18th September includes Mona Singh, Manoj Pahwa, Juhi Babbar, Badshah alongside Lakshya, Raghav and Bobby Deol. The show also stars Manish Chaudhari, Anya Singh, Vijayant Kohli, Gautami Kapoor, and Rajat Bedi

Moreover, the music composed by Shashwat Sachdev, with Anirudh Ravichander and Ujwal Gupta serving as guest composers and crooned by Arijit Singh and Amira Gill has been gotten fans excited.

So given the impressive star cameos, high production values, and Aryan’s fresh perspective, The Bad** of Bollywood* certainly has the ingredients to make a significant impact. But whether it will resonate widely because it shows Bollywood’s many faces with humor and action-drama, appealing to both die-hard fans and casual viewers is worth consideration.
