Dhurandhar: The Revenge Ending Explained: Is Jaskirat Singh Rangi Dead?
Answering all the major questions we had after the credits rolled
Director Aditya Dhar's magnum opus finally came to an end with the release of Dhurandhar: The Revenge, closing on an introspective note that made fans ponder on the countless sacrifices the unnamed spies involved in projects like the one we witnessed in cinemas since last December. The movie is now the fastest Indian film to gross Rs. 500 crore worldwide and holds the record for the biggest opening ever for a Bollywood movie.
Meanwhile, as the ending stays loose for a third film, should the makers decide to make one, fans are left with one question: Is Jaskirat Singh Rangi dead?
How Dhurandhar: The Revenge Ended
At the climax of Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Hamza kills Major Iqbal in an explosive knockdown, but Yalina reveals his identity to ASP Omar Haider to protect their son, Zayan. Hamza is captured by the ISI and brutally tortured. Meanwhile, Ajit Sanyal blackmails the Director of the ISI, General Shahnawaz, to let Hamza go and frame Uzair as the scapegoat by threatening to release videos of Shahnawaz leaking confidential information about Pakistan to Israel.
Now that Hamza is released, viewers are introduced to the biggest twist: Hamza's father-in-law, the politician Jameel Jamali, has been an Indian spy for the past four decades. After Hamza was captured, Yalina called Jameel to rescue him. Jameel, in turn, asked Sanyal to negotiate for his release.
Now that his mission is complete, a battered Jaskirat returns to India, where Sanyal is already waiting to assign him his next mission. However, Sanyal is informed that “the asset is loose”, and we see Jaskirat, having fled to Pathankot, stand in front of his house, watching his mother, sister Jasleen and her son as they go about their daily lives. As he watches on in silence, his mother closes the gate to their house without seeing or acknowledging her son. The spy is left standing, his past closing itself off on one side, and his future hunting him down on the other.
Is Jaskirat Dead At The End Of Dhurandhar: The Revenge?
Seeing how no one in the family seemed to notice Jaskirat in the final scene, even though he is standing out in the open, many fans theorised that Hamza, or Jaskirat, died of his wounds when he was held by the ISI. That, however, is not true. Jameel’s big revelation about his role takes place after Hamza is released from his captors, and back in India, Director Sushant Bansal tells Sanyal that Hamza is loose, as in, he is on the run. Which means Jaskirat Singh Rangi is clearly alive, although whether he will return to espionage or not is a different question altogether. Which brings us to…
Will There Be A Dhurandhar 3?
There’s no official confirmation that a third Dhurandhar film is in the works, and it’s less likely to be so. Reportedly, Aditya Dhar is not interested in continuing the story now that the main mission is over, although producers at Jio Studios are keen to take the franchise forward. Will the producers win over?
Time only knows.
