Every bachelor pad tells the story of its owner.
Is he obsessed with nostalgia? Is the kitchen central to his world view? Is a collector of artefacts or avoids clutter? Whether you're a renter or own your place, it makes sense to create a beautiful, warm, inviting and comfortable living space which reflects one's innate personality and taste.

Take, for instance, Queer Eye's Antoni Porowski's sophisticated New York home where every corner reflects a memory. From his impeccably furnished kitchen replete with a considerable number of kitchen knives to the oxblood leather chairs in the living room to the Loro Piana curtains in the bedroom - every aspect has an inimitable stamp of the celebrated chef. Luxe, chic yet chaotic - much like Antoni's vibrant headspace.

Back home, Ishaan Khatter's sea-facing pad in Mumbai lit with ample natural light could be a great reference point. Warm, toasty and welcoming, this cosy place comes alive with leather sofas and media consoles. The easy-going actor likes to reconcile chic with practicality hence the living room has a modular coffee table which he even uses for storage and it even doubles up as a study table.

One's bachelor pad should be a welcoming zone which makes you feel impossibly comfortable after a hectic day's work or after a long spell of vacations. Let's get some expert tips from design mavens to spruce up your nest. Nitin Kohli, Founder - Nitin Kohli Home has styled a few bachelor pads over the years — for different age groups. The design style might change from more classic and luxe for mature men to contemporary and laidback for the younger generation, but the common thread has always been this — the space should be unapologetically personal.

Kohli notes that smart design should never overshadow the resident’s personality. One doesn’t need to overdo it — a few well-chosen pieces can speak volumes. "Lighting is a top pick. A mix of warm ambient lights, dimmable lamps, and concealed strip lighting behind shelves can be a mood changer. In my opinion, automation plays a key role," says he.
Moreover, a study corner is a must — it adds weight and presence. Materials can range from masculine to soft lines but must always be functional. "Bachelors love to invest in the media. Large screens have always caught their fancy — it should anchor the space. Custom media consoles are worth investing in. Materials are key and vary with one’s personality — leather, faux leather, heavy textured walls (wallpapers, wood, or stone), or subtle textures like suede finishes or deep paint tones can add mood without being loud," he adds. Biophilic interiors help add life. Tall indoor plants like fiddle leaf figs or palms in raw ceramic pots can do wonders to soften the space. "Talking about life — pets are family in bachelor pads. The way to a bachelor’s heart is through his pet family. Take every care to make them comfortable. And of course, art and objects — whether it’s monochrome photography, collected curios, or travel mementos — they all help reflect who you are," he says.

There are two personalities in bachelors — those who like to entertain but also want their downtime, so the space needs to flex a little. And those who want their bachelor pads solely for themselves. "Couches and sofas need to be extremely comfortable and deep — something you can lounge on but still looks crisp. Keep the palette rich and deep in colour. Add textured cushions and a rug to define the area," he adds.

A good handy bar is a fantastic idea — always giving you company, whether you’re cheering alone or with friends. "A versatile open kitchen layout with an island can quadruple up as a kitchen breakfast bar, casual dining spot, party hub, and cocktail station for the happiest hours. It’s about creating a zone that feels casual but well put together. The balcony is where you can bring in a bit of contrast — it should feel like a retreat. Add a bench or lounge chair with a throw, and you’ve got a space that works equally well for a Sunday coffee or a late-night drink," he suggests.
All in all, bachelor pads know no bounds — age, status, or wealth can't define them. They are egalitarian spaces, adaptable to individual tastes.
