First it was necklaces, then brooches. Now? The hottest thing in menswear is something your grandfather wore to a garden party in the 90's. Yep, headgear : berets, boater hats, caps, fedoras have made the loudest noise at this year's Met Gala. The best dressed men came crowned like kings with these hats.

Hats brought a little history, a flair, and identities to the annual fashion event. They're more than fashion fluff on the red carpet. Surely, many of us might have a complicated history with hats, but needless to say, they are the boldest accessories to embrace.

Unlike, other accessories that have become trendy in the past few years, hats refreshingly nod. Whether you like a boater hat, beret, straw hat, or snapback, all had a spot at the Met (beyond the red carpet, too!)

Colman Domingo

While the red carpet attire missed the hat, the co-chair, actor Colman Domingo, delivered a masterclass in sartorial storytelling and was spotted wearing all black flowy fit at the after party that had a snapback Brooklyn hat to complement.

Khaby Lame

The internet sensation known for his silent wit, made a striking debut at the Met this year wearing a three-piece suit by BOSS and a wide brimmed hat.

Willy Chavarria

The fashion designer who recently made his way to the TIME's Top 100 most influential people in the world, wore a pink and black suit by his own label and paired it with flowers and a wide-brimmed hat. His look was inspired by the fashion movement between the 30s and 40s Mexican-American resistance.

Bad Bunny

Decked up in a stylish brown Prada suit, the Puerto Rican singer, Bad Bunny, topped his look with a custom pava, a traditional Puerto Rican straw hat. that gave his Met look a sculpted edge.

Maluma

Dressed in Willy Chavarria's design, Mexican singer Maluma paid homage to the Pachuca Dandy, a zoot suit style popularised by the members of the Mexican Americans, symbolising pride and defiance through bold and luxurious fashion. He also wore a wide-brimmed hat with a bubblegum pink roses stitched on one side.

Sabyasachi

Our favourite Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who also styled SRK's debut dandy look at the Met this year, wore an ivory hand-quilted, oversized court jacket and white shirt and tuxedo trouser. He paired it with a black velvet military with feathered brooch pinned at top front.

Chance The Rapper

Chance The Rapper wore a custom tan Versace suit, accessorised with gold and silver jewellery exuding black dandyism and expressive fashion. His hat added a touch of sophistication with a grey structured hat.

One of the best ensembles of the year, Lewis Hamilton's ivory beret added the final touches to his all ivory Grace Wales Bonner attire.
