In a different lifetime, Shahid Kapoor may have been a connoisseur of all things style. He is still is, yes, but with a day job that requires him to, sometimes, take some not-so-stylish turns and taverns. Take those away, and he could’ve been a style czar, ruling the hearts and kingdoms of his empire. That’s exactly what he’s doing in his time off – those selfies on his Instagram page certainly suggest the man lives la dolce vita and loves every bit of it.

Speaking of his selfies, have you seen that perfectly chiselled face? Sculpted arms? His well-groomed facial fuzz? And those on-fleek sunglasses? Gosh, I’m starting to sound like a man obsessed with him. You would too, if you paid close attention. To those eyes, those lips... okay, I should calm down now!

The point is that Shahid is a man of impeccable style. No surprises then, he’s been signed by Vogue Eyewear as the face of their sunglasses and optics for men. Who wouldn’t buy what he’s selling, right? From clothes to shoes and sunglasses, with nary a moment when things go wrong. How does he do it? We had many questions, and the man answered them all. How has your personal style evolved over the years?

I think style, like anything else, grows with you. In the early years, I experimented a lot with my looks but today, my style is more comfortable, more refined, and most importantly, true to who I am. I’ve learned to trust my instinct and wear pieces that feel natural to me.

You're always wearing interesting sunglasses in your Instagram posts. What do you keep in mind when buying a new pair?

Sunglasses do more than just complete an outfit—they say something about your attitude. I look for a shape that suits my face, has a bit of edge, and feels versatile.

When it comes to eyewear—are you all about the shape or the bling?

Always the shape. It’s the silhouette that does the talking. I like pieces that are quietly confident—strong lines, great fit, and subtle details.

What’s your take on wearing sunglasses after dark?

Honestly, it depends on the vibe. At a night shoot, an event, or a party—it works. If you feel good in it, why not?

Between you & your wife, Mira Kapoor, who is a bigger influence on the other when it comes to fashion & style?

We inspire each other in different ways. Mira has such a sharp sense of style—it’s classic but experimental in its own way. I think we push each other to try new things while still holding on to our individual flair. That balance is what makes it fun.

The Vogue campaign is all about the 'No Rules Club' - what are some style rules you wish people would abandon?

The idea that you have to follow trends to be stylish. Style should feel personal. I love that this campaign celebrates people who wear what they want, how they want—whether it's mixing formal with streetwear or wearing sunglasses after sundown. That’s what the Vogue Eyewear man stands for—freedom in fashion, without judgment.

What's your favourite piece from the new Vogue Eyewear collection and what would you wear it with?

There’s a sleek, gold-toned metal frame with polarized green lenses that I keep reaching for – its colourful, unfussy and adds just the right amount of presence. I’d wear it with a basic white tee, jeans and sneakers. Simple, but sharp.

A film of yours which had incredible style?

Kaminey had this gritty, almost grunge-like vibe—very rooted, very real, and it set a tone for edgier characters. Then there’s Udta Punjab, where the look was completely unhinged and rebellious—long hair, tattoos, oversized streetwear—it was chaotic, but it made a statement. And of course, Kabir Singh. The styling there was so minimal—just a simple shirt, that rugged beard, and a pair of sunglasses—but it created an entire mood.

How does your off-duty style change when you're traveling?

Comfort is key when I travel, but that doesn’t mean compromising on style. I go for easy layers, clean cuts, and always—always—a great pair of sunglasses. They’re the one accessory that can tie a whole look together.

Apart from your sunglasses, what other accessories do you love & collect?

I’ve always been a watch guy—there’s something timeless about a beautifully crafted timepiece. Sneakers, too—I like a good pair that stands out without being flashy. Accessories, for me, are about personality, not noise.

Your hair has changed a lot over the years—was it more about the role, or where you were in life?

A bit of both. Sometimes it’s dictated by the role, other times it’s about what phase I’m in. I enjoy experimenting with my look—it’s a way to express change, growth, or even just have fun. Same with sunglasses or clothes—it’s all part of the language of style.
