Here’s Why Vitamin C Needs To Be Part Of Your Summer Skincare Routine

Plus 6 vitamin C-filled face cleansers your skin will fall in love with!

The thing about summer is that it’ll ruin your skin no matter what you do!

Is that too harsh? Well, so is the sun now that summer is here in full flow, so don’t come at me for some not-so-nice words, please. And it’s going to get worse with every passing day. If you’re not prepared, or in the midst of preparation at the very least, you’re going to be having a ‘wonderful’ time getting roasted.

But let me not be the prophesier of doomsday yet; sun damage isn’t something that can’t be treated in time. Since none of us can’t afford to be shut indoors at all times during the summer (unless, of course, we’re forced to be in lockdown mode thanks to COVID-19... is it too soon to crack this joke? I don’t think so!), cosmetic science has come up with ways to make our skin beat the heat.

One of the first things you should’ve already been doing is using quality sunscreen every single morning, and reapplying it every 2-3 hours. I’ve written enough and more about the harmful effects of sun’s UV rays on your skin, and how applying a broad spectrum sunscreen, that’s compatible with your skin type, is the one truly effective thing you absolutely must do.

But I’m here to tell you about another thing you must do to fight sun damage. Have you heard about Vitamin C? Of course you have. It’s found in ample amounts in oranges, Indian gooseberry, strawberries, etc. You’ve studied about it in school. We all have, yes. But I’m talking about Vitamin C in skincare products.

Benefits Of Vitamin C

One of the finest properties of Vitamin C is its ability to brighten and even your skin tone and undoing sun damage. Want to get rid of hyperpigmentation and dark spots? Vitamin C should be your go-to. You can also count on it to repair you skin and treat the sun-caused blemishes. Since it’s a powerful anti-oxidant, Vitamin C also helps protect your skin from free radicals and environmental damage. It’s also excellent at improving collagen production in your skin too.

Basically, Vitamin C is an all-too-powerful ingredient that needs to be a part of your skincare routine pronto. Particularly during summers when the sun is at its most powerful and harmful best.

How To Use Vitamin C In Your Skincare Routine

That’s the thing about Vitamin C – you could use it as you like. In a serum or moisturiser, or even as a mist. You could also use it as part of your face wash, which has now become my favourite way to use it.

Using a face wash or cleanser with Vitamin C helps you tackle two birds with one stone – you get all the benefits of vitamin c while also getting a deep cleanse for your skin. If you’re someone dealing with excessive oils on your face, a Vitamin C face wash will help you with that problem and reduce excess oil and sebum production in your skin too.
