ARE WE TRULY AT THE END OF THE YEAR ALREADY?
Gosh! Time truly flies when you’ve spent most of it cleansing, toning and moisturising, with a generous amount of sunscreen along the way. What a year it’s been, right?
I’ve waxed eloquent about the miracles of every kind of skincare product, and you’ve hopefully taken notes, and trodden along the path to discover your best skin ever. Hold up, is this starting to read like a goodbye note? Relax, it’s just time to bid adieu to 2025. I’m not going anywhere. You’re the one going into a new year, so might as well leave a few things behind, what say?
Washing Your Face With Warm Water
For starters, let’s go easy on this, alright? I know it’s winter, and the thought of splashing freezing cold water on your face is giving you the chills. But would you rather have skin that’s dry and stripped of its natural oils? I’m guessing the answer is no, and if it isn’t, you better correct it. That warm/hot water is ruining your skin barrier and leaving it dehydrated. Definitely not the look you want showing up in 2026.

Missing Out On Sunscreen
I truly can’t believe that I’m still having to say this, but can you not not apply your sunscreen every day? Whether it’s summer or winter, hot or cold, sunscreen should be mandatory. Because guess what, the sun’s harmful UV rays are still finding a way to your face even if it’s grey/cloudy outside. It won’t take much time or effort to put it on before stepping out every morning—no one is (or at least shouldn’t be) that lazy, now!
Touching Your Face All The Time
It’s something I’ve observed many, many people do, all day long. Why are you touching your face? Are you worried your skin has peeled off? Or are you checking if your nose or lips are still there? Even if you’ve had some work done and want to make sure it’s still intact, that’s no excuse to keep touching your forehead, cheeks or any part of your face throughout the day. All that grime on your fingers? It’s wrecking your skin. Yes, really.

Ignoring Your Skin Type
Is it dry or oily? Or both? It’s not Sophie’s Choice! A simple test of looking in the mirror and checking for oil patches on your face should give you the answer. And once you’ve figured it out, only go for products that suit that skin type. Sounds quite basic but you’d be surprised how many men aren’t doing it. Including you, maybe. Are you sure? Or did you use your partner’s moisturiser last night even though you both are different skin types?

Using Old/Dusty Razors
When does a razor get old? Ideally, the blade needs to be replaced after 5-10 shaves, or two weeks, for certain. But that also depends on how coarse your beard is and the kind of shave you prefer. Whatever the case, using a razor that’s well past its shelf life is a definite no-no. Get a new one every two weeks unless you’re into cuts, burns and ingrown hair. Hey, everyone has their kinks—no judgement here.
Happy new year, my readers. See you in 2026 with more skincare sermons served with a side of sass!
