DIY Skincare Routines: Taking Care Of Your Skin Doesn't Have To Be Complicated
5 do-it-yourself skincare regimes using simple ingredients from your kitchen - who said skincare products have to cost a lot?
Taking care of yourself and your skin shouldn’t be a task too tiring, which is why the best of brands across the globe have devised products that’ll ensure your skin is feeling and looking its optimum best at all times.
If you’re using them correctly and regimentally, of course.
But sometimes, and for some people, investing in skincare could be both expensive and time consuming. Yes, most of these products are worth every penny you spend – I've been waxing eloquent about them for quite a while here! - but one of the most common ‘complaints’ I receive is how some people simply can’t afford to buy a moisturiser worth a few humble thousands.

You could always buy something from a not-so-expensive brand that fits in your budget, yes, but you could also just get out of bed, head to your kitchen and get yourself ‘products’ that are just as effective as some of the most luxurious skincare products out there.
Welcome to the world of DIY or Do It Yourself skincare. Because sometimes, you’ve just got to do it yourself!

Do you wake up feeing puffy or swollen? Be it after a night out partying or just because you didn’t get a good night’s rest? Nothing like ice to help you out.

Gently rubbing an ice cube on your face first thing in the morning is not only great for reduce puffiness on the face but also helps in dealing with excess oils and calms down inflammation. It’s also a good option to cope with sunburnt skin. Ice also helps give your facial skin a more toned look.
Turmeric, Milk and Honey Mask
There are few things better than turmeric when it comes to boosting your skincare game. Thanks to the presence of curcumin in it, turmeric is a potent anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory ingredient in many skincare products in the market. And since it’s readily available in every single home, you can use it as a face mask for yourself without spending a lot of money.

Mix raw turmeric powder with a bit of milk (which will help clear out dead skin cells including acne) and honey (that’ll deal with breakouts causing free radicals) from your face, giving you a glow unlike any other.
Matcha Powder Mask
Full confession: I stumbled upon this one during the COVID lockdown days. It was a boring Friday evening and unable to go out anywhere, I decided to put on some leftover Matcha powder (I couldn’t bear drinking any more Matcha tea!) on my face. When I woke up the next morning, my face was glowing, and I’ve been hooked onto this one since.
If you’re someone with oily skin (like me), matcha powder will greatly help regulate sebum production and give your face a more oil-balanced look. It’s also a good anti-inflammatory agent for your face.
Pro tip: For a shot of Vitamin C, mix some lemon juice with the matcha powder.
Coconut, Sugar, Lemon Scrub
Nothing says ‘exfoliation’ quite like this one!
Removing dead skin cells and impurities from the face is essential if you want to have glowing skin and an even complexion, and this face scrub that you can make at home does that better than everything else.

Take some coconut oil and add granular sugar and lemon juice to the mix. The sugar will scrub out dead skin and the lemon will work at tightening your pores. All this while the coconut oil will add a lovely layer of moisture. If it sounds delightful, that’s because it is!
PS: Avoid if you don’t have dry skin!
Coffee
Coffee is truly God’s wonder gift, isn’t it? Not only does it wake you and elevate your mood as a drink but when used as a face mask, it gives your glowing, healthy skin as well.
Coffee does everything that a good skincare product does – it brightens and tones, helps with anti-ageing and also fights acne spots. All you need to do is mix it with some turmeric (for that extra dose of anti-inflammatory properties) and yoghurt and apply it on your face. It’s truly that simple!
