Women Love Benny Blanco And Men Should Take Notes

Why Benny Blanco, American music-producer, proves being yourself is the ultimate attraction

A simple notion has followed around the world of fame: celebrities are not like us. They are cooler, hotter, richer, Greek gods and goddesses with perfect skin and a lot more interesting personalities. But the ghost in the machine of modern pop music, and Selena Gomez’s fiancé, Benny Blanco, makes the system look incredibly dumb. Not because he is not rich or cooler or interesting enough. Essentially, the music producer doesn’t behave like a typical celebrity.

A lot of the fans are only getting to know now that the man has basically produced and written songs that defined the pop genres. Chart-toppers in the past 15 years like Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’, Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’, and Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ all have Blanco’s fingertips on them.

He is a regular-looking guy with no façade of putting that hot bod for everyone to gawk at or make us bleed with his chiselled, razor-sharp jawline. It’s likely that if you didn’t know him better, you’d mistake him for your friend’s weird cousin who crashes on couches and gets a kick out of things by pranking others.

He’ll not let you know how immensely talented he is until you find yourself in a studio jamming over music. Benny seems like the person who’d like to be himself, not the star music producer who demands attention and respect from everyone around him because he is the guy. Maybe it’s a little radical for those that get turned on by the celebrity worshipping and the whole culture around it.

Here's the thing though. Benny isn’t the first man to reject fitting into the mould of traditional male celebrity. Neither does he pretend to be untouchable, like the ones whose existence is far removed from our own that they almost seem mythical. Benny despite his Hollywood glow seems far more relatable and almost suspiciously too regular guy who’d be friends with everyone. Oh, yeah, he is friends with Justin Bieber, has produced songs for Adam Levine and Rihanna, and is in a committed relationship with Selena Gomez.

If you look at his Instagram, it’s chaotic and with a handful of pictures. His Tik-Tok is a food-stained page, and the internet is nevertheless loving him. Calling him the greenest of flags. He is funny, charming, a supportive partner, goofy and immensely talented. But his appeal isn’t simply coming from there- the reason why everyone is loving him right now.

Watching Benny’s interviews online, fame doesn’t feel aspirational anymore, it’s more comfortable. It’s like watching your friend geek out over his girlfriend or his passion for creating unique beats. And this relatability is far more appealing than the idea of untouchable icons.

Benny Blanco Is Not Your Cool Guy

Growing up, we had celebrities who barely smiled in the photos, felt annoyed by being famous, and eagerly waited for interviews to be done so they could go back to their private life or wanted to create mystery to intrigue their fans. These cool guys were serious, superficially discusses their “art” and went on with their lives. Blanco seems to be comfortable with where he is and who is- the non-manicured persona.

In fact, he seems unserious and a lot more excited and charmingly dorky. Perhaps, the reason for Blanco’s nonchalance is his deep industry knowledge and genuine confidence as a writer and producer with hits including Kesha’s “Tik Tok” (2009), Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” (2010), Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream” (2010), Rihanna’s “Diamonds” (2012), and Ed Sheeran’s songs “Don’t” (2014) and “Happier” (2017), and Maroon 5’s hits, including “Moves Like Jagger” (2010), “Payphone” (2012), “Maps” (2014) and “Animals” (2014). You get it! The list is exhaustively long.

In an interview with Damien Wall in 2024, Blanco shared that his “job is to be a therapist, that’s my job more than even a musician”, adding that “being a producer sometimes is like being a spotter at the gym.” Reflecting his deep sense of understanding and emotional bandwidth to be able to get the best of an artist, Blanco seems to be the guy with substance. One who is not waiting for others to validate him.

He is reassured, emotionally aware but mainly unapologetically authentic. He isn’t cynical in his interviews or acts like success is overwhelming or boring. Neither does he downplay his excitement. Instead of pushing himself to act like “a famous man”-following the musts and the shoulds, he does what he likes, he posts what he wants and openly expresses his deep admiration for women making him internet’s darling right now.
