Nobody Wants This Season 2 Review: Adam Brody & Kristen Bell Get It Right, Again!

Who knew watching a rabi and a podcast host's love story would be so much fun!

Since it's back for a second season, maybe it’s time for change of name?

That was my first thought as I sat down to watch the second season of a show everybody clearly wants, Nobody Wants This. The second being how incredible it is to see two actors in their mid-forties play the lead in a romantic-comedy and have the rest of us totally rooting for them.

Nobody Wants This is one of the most watchable streaming offerings, and this second season further cements that fact. At a time when people are struggling to find love IRL, here comes a show that presents an alternative universe where everything somehow works out and finding love is almost a given. It’s a great escape that we all willingly surrender to, especially because it’s well-written and performed.

Noah and Joanne are together and seemingly going strong when we meet them at the start of this new season. Things this time aren’t the usual will-they-or-won't-they but more about how-will-they instead. Do they and how so? I’m not getting into spoilers here, but it’s a wonderful journey to find that out.

True to form, the chemistry between the actors (Adam Brody and Kristen Bell) is electric as ever. and both actors bring their A-game to the table. Brody is every bit the heartthrob rabi he’s intended to be – he's definitely the show’s ace card and it puts the actor’s goofy charm to great use this season as well.

Aside from the leads, the rest of the characters continue to further elevate the show as well. Sasha (Timothy Simons) and Esther (Jackie Tohn) actually have a wonderful arc as a couple, and you actually get to know them better beyond that stereotypical (and hilarious) first season storyline. Then there’s Morgan (Justine Lupe) who continues to remain one of the show’s most well written characters. The actor is pitch-perfect and the show allows her a great plotline this season, elevating the part from surface level writing to so much more nuance.

Stars cameos happen too. Leighten Meester (Brody’s real-life wife) shows up for an episode. As does Seth Rogen. Both are great but don’t bring much more than frothy fan service to the show. It’s not like the season would’ve been worse without them, you know? But yes, they do give you one more reason to love the show. As if you needed it though!

Nobody Wants This? Yeah, we do. More and more of this, please. Brody and Bell, forever. Who know seeing a rabi and podcast host fall in love would be so much fun, right? Where’s that announcement for season 3 when you need it!
