The creator and showrunner of the Canadian gay sport romance show, Heated Rivalry, starring Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie is turning his gaze to history bringing the story of mentor and mentee this time. It is the story of Alexander The Great and his thrilling adventures and relentless quest for dominance.

Of course, even before the cast is finalised, the upcoming show has everyone gushing over on the internet. Mainly, because it is about a Greek prince who according to the historical documents was gay and conquered parts of Asian minor, Syria and more. Moreover, the fact that its showrunner of Heated Rivalry Jacob Tierney, who’s best known for hits like Letterkenny and Good Neighbours Jacob Tierney teaming up with Netflix to adapt Canadian author Annabel Lyon’s novel The Golden Mean into a series, fans have questions. And we're here to get them all the answers they want:

What Is The Golden Mean Novel About?

Canadian author Annabel Lyon’s novel The Golden Mean explores the intense and complex early relationship between Alexander the Great and his tutor, the philosopher Aristotle. The Golden Mean, first published in 2010 and hailed as a “marvelously reimagined” look at 4th century BC and delves into Alexander's formative years as a teen under the guidance of Aristotle, who offers him a nunanced exploration of intellect, ambition and desire.

Based on the golden mean philosophy by Aristotle, an ethical theory that calls for navigating life in such a way that you avoid extreme vices to achieve happiness, the book depicts relationships between men as a norm in this era, portraying a "deeply realized" and sometimes "strange" world where male-male affection exists alongside military and political ambition.

What We Know So Far About The Upcoming Jacob Tierney Series?

As writer, director and executive producer, Tierney will be joined behind the scenes by collaborators including Brendan Brady and producers from Aggregate Films, promising a vivid reimagining of palace intrigue, ambition and the forging of an empire that could become one of the most talked‑about shows on the streaming landscape

Jacob Tierney is set to write, direct and executive produce the period show which will explore the little-known story of Alexander the Great and his tutor. According to Netflix, the drama between the mentor, Aristotle, and mentee, Alexander, begins as the Athenian empire is crumbling and the world’s greatest mind, Aristotle, arrives in Macedonia to tutor a volatile young prince, Alexander who already shows ambition and tactility at a young age. "Amid palace intrigue, forbidden love, brutal war and ruthless ambitions, their unlikely friendship shapes an empire and alters the course of history," the statement read.

Will The Show Stick To Historical Facts About Alexander's Sexuality?

If we're to go by the novel, the series will be set against the crumbling empire of Athens, the story explores the intense and complex relationship between the tutor and his pupil as well as the with the self. But hold on, if you are speculating the story between the Prince and his tutor to be one of those hot pupil-tutor stories, spoiler for you already, it isn't that kind. However, the series might - and this is pure alleging- explore Alexander's historical bisexuality, adding queer, intimate and homosexual focus to his character.

Lyon's narrative juxtaposes Aristotle's philosophy of moderation and reflection - the titular golden mean- against the raw, violent, and hyper-masculine world of Philip of Macedon's court. The novel depicts Aristotle's desire for moderation and contemplation against the violent, hyper-masculine warrior culture of Philip of Macedon's court. He seeks to teach balance aka golden mean however, this is against the desire of the Macedon prince who is driven by a need to conquer and exert violent dominance. In the book, he is a complex teen who is brilliant and sadistic and is navigating the expectations of manhood and kingship at the same time.

When Will It Release?

As it is only a title announcement of the show, fans of Heated Rivalry and Greek history will have to be on a lookout for upcoming updates about the cast, location and release date of the Heated Rivalry creator's new show based on Netflix adaptation of The Golden Mean.
