Directed by Pulkit and produced by Gauri Khan the film, Kartavya, follows a police officer, Pawan, grappling with guilt, pressure and personal conflict after a journalist he is appointed to protect is assassinated.
As he launches a high-stakes manhunt for the attacker, Pawan (played by Saif Ali Khan) a Lord Shiv devotee, is pulled into a dangerous web of power, deception, and political influence. At the same time, threats against his family force him to deal the moral grey.
Set to launch as an OTT film on Netflix, the film produced by Red Chillies Entertainment also stars Rasika Dugal, Sanjay Mishra, Zakir Hussain, Manish Chaudhari, and Saurabh Dwivedi.
The trailer of the film that dropped on May 7 depicts the power dynamics between the characters and Pawan at the center being pulled in all direction to sort things out. And while this isn't Khan's first rodeo in OTT, the actor has built a steady catalogue of characters who are forced to face their moral dilemma's to overcome a conflict. And Kartavya seems to be following the same recipe.
In his OTT debut on Sacred Games as Sartaj Singh, Khan depicted a duty bound cop's struggles to survive within a corrupt system while racing to prevent a looming catastrophe. Sartaj's dilemma lies in how far he is willing to compromise his ethics in pursuit of justice. The gritty Netflix thriller earned a widespread appreciation from audiences and critics.
Similarly, in Tandav, the actor stepped into the world of political power struggles as the ambitious Samar Pratap Singh and highlighted his ability to portray a charismatic yet deeply flawed character who is caught up in tug of war between duty and conscience.
Speaking about his character in Kartavya now in a statement said, “Pawan is a man constantly negotiating with himself, between what he believes is right, what’s expected of him, and what he must protect. What drew me to Kartavya is that it doesn’t offer easy answers; it puts you in uncomfortable spaces and forces you to ask what you would do when every choice comes at a personal cost.”
With its brooding tone and character-driven storytelling, Kartavya is a gripping exploration of conscience, consequence, and the cost of doing what is right starring Kartavya, Saif Ali Khan and is set to premiere on Netflix on May 15, 2026.
