Peaky Blinders To Get A Brand New Sequel
The Shelbys are back. But this time, the cobblestone streets of Birmingham are bathed in the silver sheen of the 1950s
Peaky Blinders, the iconic British crime drama, is making a triumphant return with a sequel series that promises to blend the raw intensity of its predecessors with the polished sophistication of a new era.
Set in 1953, the sequel series of Netflix's hit show Peaky Blinder picks up after the events of the upcoming film, The Immortal Man, currently in post-production. The story shifts focus to a new generation of Shelbys, navigating the complexities of a city rebuilding itself amidst the remnants of war.
Creator Steven Knight is also set to return to helm the project, ensuring the continuation of the gripping narrative that fans have come to love.
“I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story,” Knight told Tudum. “Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel, and it will be a hell of a ride.”
What Fans Can Expect from The New Sequel
Post-Blitz Birmingham serves as more of a character in its own right that just a place the Peaky Blinders are located. Fans can expect the city, scarred by the ravages of World War II, to now be a canvas of concrete and steel, ripe with opportunities and dangers.
According to the sources, the Shelbys, ever adaptable, are expected to find themselves at the heart of this reconstruction, vying for control in a city teeming with ambition and unrest.
The sequel series is produced by Kudos and Garrison Drama, with filming set to take place in Birmingham at Digbeth Loc. Studios. The creative team includes Steven Knight as the writer and executive producer, alongside original star Cillian Murphy, who portrayed Tommy Shelby and since has gone on to receive his first Academy Award for his role in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.
Murphy who was recently seen in Steve, a film based on novella titled Shy and is about a head teacher at a reform school struggles to keep his students in line while also battling with his own mental health issues, returns as an executive producer, adding his expertise to the project. Other executive producers include Karen Wilson and Martin Haines for Kudos, Jamie Glazebrook for Garrison Drama, Jo McClellan and Danielle Scott Haughton for the BBC, and Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley for Netflix.
Though no official release date has been announced for the sequel series, The Peaky Blinders sequel will include two new six-episode seasons. It will follow the original series, which concluded with Season 6 in 2022.
