These Are The Indian Celebs Attending The Cannes Film Festival This Year
The Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 13-24 this year
It’s time for the biggest stage for cinema to enthral us yet again. Movies, actors, stars, everyone will be there and the French Riviera will be lit up in its glamourous best. I’m obviously talking about Cannes Film Festival 2025 and if you hadn’t figured it out as yet, well, you’re not a movie lover, are you?
Starting next week, we’ll all be on our phones, scrolling through Instagram, for the newest movie updates, premieres and reviews and of course, red carpet fashion. Because no one does fashion quite like the men and women taking to these stairs at the Cannes Film Festival, year after year.
Hold on, are there stairs over there, quite like the Met Gala? Umm... doesn’t matter. You know what I’m talking about.
Coming back to Cannes, the film festival shall be held from May 13 to 24 – that's over ten days of glitz and glam! This year’s theme is ‘Lights, Beauty and Action’, a powerful philosophy rooted in confidence, self-worth, and the belief that everyone is inherently deserving. The best of celebrities from across the world will be there but we’re here to talk about those from India because no one gets us as starry-eyed as our very own Bollywood stars.

Indian Celebrities Attending The Cannes Film Festival 2025
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
She’s the OG Cannes woman indeed! Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been going to Cannes for over two decades. Before she was signed on by L’Oreal Paris as their brand ambassador, she had also attended the film festival for the premiere of her film Devdas alongside SRK and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Alia Bhatt
As one of the newest celebrities to be signed on by L’Oreal Paris, Alia Bhatt will make her debut at the Cannes Film Festival this year. The actor is well aware of the expectations and in her own words, quite excited about her appearance on one of the most keenly watched red carpets in the world. “There's something absolutely special about firsts,” she has said.
Sharmila Tagore
The veteran actor, who first attended the film festival back in 1962, will be attending a special screening of her film, Aranyer Din Ratri (1970), which saw her act opposite Soumitra Chatterjee. This Satyajit Ray film is being screened at Cannes after being restored by The Film Foundation's World Cinema Project at L'Immagine Ritrovata in collaboration with Film Heritage Foundation, Janus Films, and the The Criterion Collection.

Payal Kapadia
After winning the Grand Prize for her film, All We Imagine As Light, Payal Kapadia now joins the prestigious jury at the Cannes Film Festival this year. She’s not the first Indian though to have been a part of the jury though – in the recent past, Deepika Padukone in 2022 and Vidya Balan (2013) have also served on the jury. Mrinal Sen was the first Indian to be on the jury in 1982. Sharmila Tagore was on the jury in 2009 as well.
Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor
All three young actors star in director Neeraj Ghaywan’s second feature film, Homebound, that will have its premiere at Cannes 2025, as part of the festival’s Uncertain Regard category. So we're hoping to see them at the premiere.
The film produced by Karan Johar was recently in the news after it was announced that Martin Scorsese had come on board the film as an executive producer.
Karan Johar & Neeraj Gahwyn
Along with the cast, we’re hoping Homebound’s producer and director would also be attending the film festival. Incidentally, Ghaywan’s first film, Masaan, too had its grand premiere at the film festival in 2015 and even won two awards.
