The Most Exciting Movies Releasing in December 2025

Here's what we're watching in December

By Abhya Adlakha | LAST UPDATED: DEC 31, 2025

There’s something about December.

Maybe it’s the collective delusion that we’re all going to “slow down,” maybe it’s the wedding season, maybe it’s just year-end fatigue. I don’t know. Whatever the reason, we usually don’t have high expectations from the year-ender movies.

However, surprisingly, the final month of 2025 looks less like a release calendar and more like an entertainment universe asking, “You thought the year was done? Cute.”

December arrives with a whole mood — big canvases, bigger egos, maximalist spectacle, overdue sequels, and that one indie-ish title that’ll suddenly unleash a thousand Film Twitter think pieces.

And honestly? This month might actually deliver.

Because between James Cameron returning to Pandora’s burning forests, Ranveer Singh turning into a one-man diplomatic nightmare in Dhurandhar, and Timothée Chalamet going feral over table tennis in Marty Supreme, December is bringing enough chaos to make the year-end genuinely fun again.

Movies Releasing in December 2025

Let’s dive in.

Dhurandhar

Release Date: December 5

Where: In theatres

If there’s one man who knows how to turn covert ops into cinematic chest-thumping, it’s Aditya Dhar. After Uri, he’s back with Dhurandhar, a gritty, high-voltage thriller inspired by true events — and he’s brought Ranveer Singh in full “this man sleeps two hours a night” mode. Singh plays a RAW agent known by the rather casual codename “The Wrath of God,” and yes, the film takes that quite literally.

The story sends him deep into Pakistan’s Lyari region to destabilise a terrorist network, navigating tight lanes, double agents, and the kind of geopolitical tension that makes your popcorn nervous. If Dhar goes all-in on grounded action again, this might become the month’s loudest theatrical experience — in the best way.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Release Date: December 5

Where: In theatres

Gamers, horror fans, and anyone traumatised by animatronic mascots: welcome back. Emma Tammi returns with Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the sequel to the 2023 box office juggernaut that proved jump scares and nostalgia can print money on demand.

This chapter picks up a year after the mayhem at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Abby sneaks out (as all great horror decisions begin) to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy — accidentally unleashing a new chain of horrors tied to the restaurant’s past. Mike and Vanessa’s attempt to “protect her from the truth” goes about as well as you’d expect.

Christmas Karma

Release Date: December 12

Where: In theatres

Priyanka Chopra singing a desi version of “Last Christmas” is already enough cultural chaos to greenlight this film. Directed by Gurinder Chadha, Christmas Karma reimagines A Christmas Carol with a British-Indian twist — ghosts of past, present and future included.

The cast — Kunal Nayyar, Eva Longoria, Chaithra Chandran, Billy Porter — promises warm, chaotic, global energy, the kind Chadha thrives in. Expect a feel-good holiday film that’s equal parts musical, diaspora comfort-watch, and a reminder that December is nothing without a little seasonal guilt.

Avatar: Fire and Ash

Release Date: December 15

Where: In theatres

James Cameron isn’t just revisiting Pandora — he’s escalating it. Avatar: Fire and Ash marks three years since The Way of Water, and the hype has survived, mutated, and is now thriving.

This chapter plunges Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their family into a harsher, more combustible conflict with Miles Quaritch. Cameron has hinted (in his most Cameron-esque way) that this film is a visual and emotional gauntlet — new territories, new creatures, and higher stakes. Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang, and Zoe Saldaña return, ready to turn CGI forests into emotional minefields.

Ikkis

Release Date: December — TBA

Where: In theatres

Shoojit Sircar’s Ikkis revisits the story of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetrapal, who was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously at 21. Starring Agastya Nanda, Jaideep Ahlawat, and the late Dharmendra, the film looks like a grounded, character-driven retelling of the 1971 war — one that digs into courage without the chest-beating bravado we’ve been numbed by.

Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri

Release Date: December 25

Where: In theatres

Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday reunite for a festive-season romance with a title long enough to require oxygen. Early chatter hints at a nostalgic, warm-hearted love story built on old-school charm, emotional heft, and the kind of chemistry that aims straight for holiday sentimentality. Expect something cosy, colourful, and easy to snack on.

Marty Supreme

Release Date: December 25

Where: In theatres

If you’ve been waiting for Timothée Chalamet to enter his chaotic-sports-icon era, Christmas has arrived early. Directed by Josh Safdie (yes, expect chaos, sweat, and questionable life choices), Marty Supreme is a ping-pong drama set in 1950s New York — loosely inspired by real-life table tennis legend Marty Reisman.

This is Chalamet’s “career-defining” performance, at least according to critics who saw it at the New York Film Festival. The film also features Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Tyler, the Creator, Kevin O’Leary, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher — the most Safdie-esque ensemble you could imagine. If you liked Uncut Gems, prepare your cardiovascular system.

Anaconda (2025)

Release Date: December 25

Where: In theatres

Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Steve Zahn, a reboot of a ‘90s cult creature movie, and a giant murderous snake. That’s it. That’s the pitch.

Anaconda (2025) follows two men going through a mid-life crisis who decide to remake the original Anaconda in the Amazon. Naturally, things get unhinged when the real snake arrives on set, and the crew’s desperate attempt to salvage the project turns into a survival nightmare.
