Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan's Horror Comedy Is Giving Major Bhool Bhulaiyaa Vibes
Everything we know about Bhooth Bangla
After weeks of cryptic emojis and mounting speculation, Akshay Kumar has finally revealed his first look from Bhooth Bangla, and the internet’s reaction was instant: déjà vu. The poster, shared on the actor’s social media, has already triggered a wave of Bhool Bhulaiyaa nostalgia, reminding fans of a time when horror and comedy collided to create cult chaos.
Sharing the first look, the 58-year-old actor wrote, “Dus ko denge das-tak, intezar karo tab tak… Let the fun begin!” The caption did what weeks of speculation could not. It confirmed tone, timing, and a certain throwback promise.
Bhooth Bangla marks the reunion of Kumar and director Priyadarshan after a 16-year gap. Their last collaboration was Khatta Meetha, and before that, they delivered some of the most beloved comedies of the 2000s, including Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Garam Masala. For audiences raised on that era of slapstick and situational absurdity, this pairing carries built-in expectations.
The film is produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures, in association with Kumar’s Cape of Good Films. Co-producers include Faara Sheikh and Vedant Baali.
The story is credited to Akash A Kaushik, with the screenplay written by Rohan Shankar, Abilash Nair, and Priyadarshan. Shankar has also penned the dialogues, which suggests the film may lean heavily on wordplay and situational comedy rather than spectacle-driven horror.

The film will also see Kumar reunite with Tabu, marking their first on-screen collaboration in 25 years. The two previously appeared together in Hera Pheri and Tu Chor Main Sipahi, and their dynamic under Priyadarshan’s direction is likely to be a central draw. The film also stars Paresh Rawal, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jisshu Sengupta, and Mithila Palkar in pivotal roles, hinting at a multi-character narrative rather than a single-protagonist showcase.
Kumar's announcement also clears up confusion around the film’s release plan. Earlier trade chatter suggested a May 2026 theatrical release to avoid a box office clash with Dhurandhar 2. That speculation now stands corrected. Bhooth Bangla will hit theatres on April 10 and later head to Netflix, positioning itself within the streaming platform’s expanding slate of mainstream Hindi entertainers.
For Kumar and Priyadarshan, this reunion is not a one-time thing. The duo is also set to collaborate on Haiwaan and Hera Pheri 3, signalling a renewed creative partnership that could revive the brand of ensemble comedy they once dominated.
Whether Bhooth Bangla manages to recapture the lightning of their earlier work remains to be seen.
