Fashion designer Tom Ford is revving up for his third feature film, assembling a powerhouse cast of Hollywood A-listers—and a surprise bombshell: Adele, trading mic for cinematic debut.

The beloved British singer-songwriter Adele, 37, whose latest album 30 saw her belt some of the best music we have heard from her in recent years is back after 4 years making headlines for being casted alongside Adolescence star Owen Cooper, who is currently gearing up to make his film debut with Wuthering Heights and has already made history as the youngest ever to win a primetime Emmy award for his role in the Netflix drama.

The other cast members include Aaron- Taylor-Johnson, Colin Firth and Nicholas Hoult in the third film that is based on Anne Rice’s 1982 novel Cry to Heaven, a drama set in 18th century Italy. that will see Tom Ford back in the director’s chair.

This is also author Anne Rice’s second book taken up for big screen adaptation, the first being An Interview With A Vampire starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.

While Ford has proven his mastery of visual storytelling  through Nocturnal Animals with Jake Gynelhall and Amy Adams in 2016, A Single Man with Colin Firth in 2009 adapted from Christopher Isherwood’s titular novel that was among Oscar-nominations for that year—fans are all the more excited for the recently announced Cry to Heaven as per a report by The Deadline.

Set in 18th century Italy, in the sweeping saga of music and vengeance the story follows two unlikely collaborators trying to succeed in the world of opera a Venetian noble and a castrated maestro from Calabria, bringing to life the decadence beneath the shimmering surface of Venice, the wild frivolity of Naples, and the magnetic terror of its shadow, Vesuvius. This is the story of the castrati, the exquisite and otherworldly sopranos whose graceful bodies and glorious voices win the adulation of royal courts and grand opera houses throughout Europe. These men are revered as idols—and, at the same time, scorned for all they are not.

According to a book review by Alice Hoffman for The New York Times, the story is “bold and erotic, laced with luxury, sexual tension, music” while according to Pat Hilton for The Los Angeles Times the novel's exploration of masculinity felt contemporary and relevant.

Though Adele has announced an indefinite break from music after touring for her last album in 2024, it seems like she has been giving acting a serious thought. Cry to Heaven is in pre-production in both London and Rome this year and the shoot will begin in January with a release date eyed for later in 2026.
