All About The Upcoming James Bond Game 007: First Light
Developed by the Hitman video game developer, the new game also has American singer Lana Del Rey on board
As much as the ardent fans of the British franchise James Bond are waiting for the next actor to play the renowned spy, they are also excited to get their hands on the new and upcoming video game 007: First Light.
After more than a decade in the shadows, James Bond is finally returning to video games as a full orchestrated swell. First Light, developed by IO Interactive - the developer behind the famous video game series Hitman bringing the 007 video game after a 14 years of hiatus.
Here's everything we know so far about the new James Bond game releasing next month:
New James Bond
While we wait for the latest version of James Bond on the big screen to be revealed, the most important thing ti understand about 007: First Light is that it is not an adaptation of any existing films or actor's portrayal of the iconic Ian Fleming that published first in the early-1950s. So, if you thought the MOD would be a version of Daniel Craig,it ain't happening. IO Interactive is building its own version of Bond from the ground up. Its reportedly a younger, less seasoned agent still earning his 00 status.
Also, given that the developer has worked on The Hitman video game series since its launch in 2007, expect the smartest stealth sandboxes in modern gaming and game design to bleed into First Light. Rather than a liner shooter, the game that will release in May is expected to emphasise player choice, disguise, multiple approaches to solve the mission.
The Most Wanted Collab: Lana Del Rey and James Bond
For years, fans of the Hollywood R&B singer Lana Del Rey who has previous lent her voice for the title track of The Great Gatsby and Maleficent was pitched by the fans for a James Bond title track. While her contemporaries Adele, Sam Smith and Billie Eilish have all got the chance to create a masterful orchestra track for the iconic film, Del Rey has yet to do it for the film franchise.
Instead, she is using her melancholic and cinematic style of singing to fit with Bond's world of glamour and danger through the new single-player and story-driven James Bond video game that will be available on Nintendo Switch 2. This not only adds layers to gameplay and its power but also the mood of the video game.
The reveal comes weeks before the release of the video game's trailer release. Del Rey who was years ago rejected by the producers of the Bond movies, has been written by acclaimed composer David Arnold, who has previously worked on five Bond films. The track released on 17 April is now available on streaming platforms and YouTube joining the "long-line of genre-defining songs."
"That's why I was so excited to work with Lana, an artist who brought elegance, atmosphere and her totally unique character to this piece," Arnold said. The tune moreover, has a slow introduction with Del Rey's signature smoky, melancholy vocals enticing the listener in.
When Is It Releasing?
007 First Light is set to launch on May 27, 2026. That gives it a prime window to dominate early summer and plenty of time for anticipation to build.
