After the passing of over a dozen years since the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5, which rewrote gaming history, there may finally be some big news coming from Rockstar Games. With the launch itself just 6 months away, it is being hinted that GTA 6 preorders may be going live on May 12. Yes, you read that right. What the gaming community has been waiting for so long may be rolled out next week. One source from which this is being surmised is a move by Sony itself.
Sony has done something surprising - PlayStation Store has pulled all active deals through May 13. “Next Level Savings starts Wednesday 13th May, is what it said.” Yes, nothing happening on this storefront known for its constant hyper-active state. There is a strong belief that Sony wants to focus every ounce of its strength on GTA 6, if the preorder goes live on May 12. This move would also ensure there is no extra load on its servers - GTA 6 demand is expected to be so high, it may well crash Sony's servers.
Not just that, PlayStation is also sending constant reminders to GTA 5 players on PS4 that they should get a PS5 if they really want to be prepared for GTA 6. And Sony was not being subtle about it with the messaging either. They put it quite bluntly, "Get a PlayStation 5 today to be ready for when Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026."
This also suggests, quite forcefully, that GTA 6 launch date, which has been postponed multiple times, has finally been locked-in on November 19. After al, Sony would not want to anger its PS4 owners if they were to buy the PS5 and then not get to play the game on the due date as promised.
Clearly, anything Sony does now and leading up to the launch regarding GTA 6 is important, since it is the one console-maker that is set to win big. Other consoles makers? Well, GTA 6 is not exclusive to Sony, but Microsoft is having a hard time with its new Xbox console and there is a lot of uncertainty as far as Switch 2 is concerned. That means, Sony will likely get the first and biggest bite at the GTA 6 pie, making fans focus on its each and every move for a deeper meaning.
GTA 6 fan frenzy was also unleashed by Game Informer, a video game magazine, which sent an email to its users with a teaser, "We’re so excited to reveal that [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] will be gracing its cover next week." The redacted parts, most fans and analysts believe, refers to Many GTA 6. Giving it weight is the fact hat this magazine has strong links with Rockstar Games, the video games publisher behind GTA 6. Any truth in that? Well, in a world where online social frenzy can mean the difference between a dud and a super-success, this could well be the folks at the magazine trying to build up some hype for the upcoming magazine issue. Rockstar is unlikely to let anyone go ahead with such a teaser though, no matter how far their connections go.
