This Timex And Nasa collaboration Has A Lovely Earth And Moon Feel To It
The Q Timex Nasa, the latest reimagination of Timex's iconic Q series, is inspired by the 1972 Apollo 17 mission to the moon
There’s something about space and watches that is timeless. The idea that not only man, but a timepiece can go where many of us will never be able to reach.
Timex’s latest collaboration with US space agency Nasa certainly bends time and space. It also brings a piece of history to your wrist.
The latest reimagination of the iconic Q Timex is set in the cosmos. Inspired by the 1972 Apollo 17 mission to the moon, the Q Timex Nasa watch is full of exciting details. It includes a multifunction movement with sub-dials tracking the day of the week, the date, and a day/night indicator depicting sun and moon illustrations.

Lume lovers will love this next bit: a luminous moon graphic in the day of the week sub-dial that glows with the same in-fill as the hands and markers. Turning the watch over reveals another tribute to space history with the iconic Blue Marble photograph, which was captured by Apollo 17 astronauts during the historic mission. The fully brushed bracelet is made from stainless steel. An ornamental tachymeter bezel completes the look.

The dial features an acrylic crystal, a lightweight plastic polymer with strong impact resistance and a vintage feel. Timex claims it can be easily polished to remove scuffs. At first look, the dial does look like there’s too many things happening. But when you look at the Q Timex logo, the detailed sub-dials and the iconic Nasa worm logo (trivia: the stylized logotype of the word ‘NASA’ was first designed by Danne & Blackburn in 1975 to represent a modern, futuristic image) at 6’ o clock, you realise the beauty of it. Every detail here can be a conversation starter, provided the watch lands on the right wrist.
Water resistant to up to 50 metres, the Q Timex Nasa comes in two variants: a stainless steel case and a leather strap. The former does have slightly more heft and appeal. The 40-mm stainless-steel case is highly resistant to rust, corrosion and tarnish. The natural leather strap has been responsibly sourced from the Leather Working Group (LWG).

As things stand, this could be an interesting year for watches inspired by space and human spaceflight. And the Q Timex Nasa is certainly in the mix.
