In my otherwise black and grey collection of wrist watches is an automatic from Alba, which is part of the Seiko family. What makes this slightly hefty timepiece stand out amongst the Roamers and the HMTs in my collection, is its pristine ice blue dial. It is my go-to pick when I want to switch things up on my wrist. It is also the only kind of blue I would have on my hands at work on a Monday.
But this sea of blue in watch designs is growing. Think back to the iconic Patek Phillipe Nautilus Tiffany blue dial that everyone from LeBron James to Mark Wahlberg wore around 2022-23. Today, you can find your way to a hue of blue on a watch across different price ranges. They are all coveted, nonetheless. The colour scheme has an exclusive and distinctive feel to it, which does make it look unattainable. But that’s not the case anymore. You can snag a turquoise dial watch for as low as Rs 4,000 (I’m looking at you, Casio lovers). But if you’re ready to step up your game, here’s a selection of some standout blue-dial watches that have been released recently.
Bioceramic MoonSwatch MISSION TO THE SUPER BLUE MOONPHASE

Who doesn’t love a MoonSwatch? The collab between Omega and Swatch is often a topic of contention between watch purists and newbies, but there is no taking away from the striking looks of the MoonSwatch. One of the more recent variants—the Bioceramic MoonSwatch MISSION TO THE SUPER BLUE MOONPHASE—celebrates the blue moon from August 2024 and features a blue Bioceramic case, crown and pushers, and a blue Velcro strap. The blue and silver panda dial comes with blue hands and hour markers. As per the Swatch website, two oversized blue moons rest against a dark blue moon phase disc, which rotates in the sub dial set at 2 o’clock. It is as blue as it gets with this MoonSwatch.

ORIS Divers Date

Inspired by the style and fashion of the 1960s, Oris calls its latest Divers Date collection “a watch for all seasons”. The watch is inspired by an original design from 1965 but has many modern additions, including an increased water resistance. The dial colours also pick up on a 1960s industrial palette. While the metal bracelet can never go wrong, the subtle combination of the supplied black rubber strap and dark blue dial is also a winner. Apart from the strap, the new Divers Date comes in three dial colours, which includes beige and black. The automatic movement watch has a power reserve of 41 hours.

Rolex 1908 Perpetual – Ice Blue variant

The Rolex Perpetual 1908 comes with a 39-mm case in platinum with an alligator leather strap but the standout feature on this elegant watch is its ice blue dial. According to Rolex, this exclusive colour can be found only on the Day-Date, the Cosmograph Daytona and the Perpetual 1908. The dial has a three-dimensional, geometric pattern which is sculpted into it using a technique called guillochage, or engine turning. The 3, 9, 12 numerals and hour markers complete the dial. Platinum case, scratch resistant sapphire glass and a domed winding crown: this is watchmaking at its best.

Patek Phillipe Cubitus 5822P–Platinum, Blue Dial, Instantaneous Grand Date, Day, And Moon Phase

One of the three models from Patek Phillipe’s first new collection in 25 years, the Patek Phillipe Cubitus 5822P displays the date, day and moon phase all in one dial. But the most amazing feature about the watch is that Patek Phillipe developed an entirely new movement for the timepiece. Caliber 240 PS CI J LU—based on the famous ultra-thin self-winding 240 calibre. As the company’s official website explains, the development of this new movement involved the filing of six specific patent applications, mostly relating to energy management for the various displays and their simultaneous 18-millisecond jumps. The square platinum case dial adds to the Cubitus 5822P’s overall look and the watch looks rather slender (weighing in at 95g) despite its 45mm diameter.

Q Timex Falcon Eye Chronograph 40mm Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch

The Q Timex series has had a renaissance of late. One of the more eye-catching designs from this collection is the Q Timex Falcon Eye Chronograph, which has a stunning blue Côtes de Genève (or Geneva stripes) dial. The result is a beautiful visual experience when sunlight strikes the dial. A chronograph movement adds a modern touch to an otherwise classic design. Another looker in this series is the Q Timex 1975 Enigma Reissue 37mm stainless steel bracelet watch.
