Beyoncé, Venus Williams and Nicole Kidman to Lead 2026 Met Gala
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos take center stage as the gala’s main sponsors
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced that Beyoncé, Venus Williams and Nicole Kidman will serve as co-chairs of the 2026 Met Gala, alongside Anna Wintour.
The event, held annually on the first Monday in May, is widely regarded as fashion’s biggest night. And to make it even better Beyonce is about to mark her first Met Gala appearance since 2016, when she attended the “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” event in a custom Givenchy gown.
Now, 10 years later as co-chair, Beyonce will be joined by the Tennis legend Venus Williams and phenomenal Australian actress Nicole Kidman. The trio will help oversee the gala’s creative direction, from décor and guest list to hosting duties and interpretation of the theme.
Next year’s theme, Costume Art, coincides with the Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition, which will explore the body in art and fashion. The show will pair paintings, sculptures and objects from the Met’s collection with 200 historical and contemporary garments, including juxtapositions such as Albrecht Dürer’s Adam and Eve alongside a Walter Van Beirendonck ensemble, or a photograph titled La Poupée paired with a Rei Kawakubo design for Comme des Garçons.
Curated by Andrew Bolton, the exhibition will examine the “centrality of the dressed body” and feature thematic sections focused on the naked, anatomical, ageing and pregnant body. It will also be the inaugural exhibition in the new 10,000-square-foot Condé Nast Galleries, the Costume Institute’s permanent home.
Drawing from The Met’s extensive holdings, the exhibition will present an ambitious mix of garments and artworks that span centuries. Visitors can expect to see historical pieces displayed alongside contemporary designs from the Costume Institute, creating vivid juxtapositions between past and present approaches to dressing the body. Paintings, sculptures, and archival objects from across the museum’s collection will be paired with roughly 200 fashion pieces, highlighting how artists and designers have continually reimagined the human silhouette.
Adding to its significance, “Costume Art” will inaugurate The Met’s new Condé M. Nast Galleries, a nearly 12,000-square-foot suite of exhibition spaces located just off the Great Hall. The expansive new galleries mark a major milestone for the Costume Institute, offering a dedicated home for future showcases of fashion as both art and lived expression.
Also, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos were recently announced as the main sponsors for the 2026 gala, drawing mixed reactions online. The host committee will be co-chaired by Anthony Vaccarello, creative director of Saint Laurent, and actor Zoë Kravitz. Additional members include Doja Cat, Sabrina Carpenter, Gwendoline Christie, Lena Dunham and Vogue editor Chloe Malle.
