Skin flooding the latest trend on the internet will convince you that the right technique is must to keep the skin radiant, supple and dewy.

What exactly is skin flooding?

Strip away the buzzword and you're left with a simple idea: hydration, applied with intent. Skin flooding is the practice of layering hydrating products like cleanser, serum, moisturizer, all in a specific sequence, typically onto damp skin, to drive moisture deeper and keep it there longer.

Think of your skin complexion like a dried out sponge that needs essential hydration to look lively. By following a particular order of applying skincare products as one is practicing skin flooding is supposed to, the layering can help as a skin barrier, support radiant appearance and hydrate the skin to make it plump.

How does it work?

While it may sound as something complicated, it isn't. Anyone who is struggling to keep their skin from getting dry, dull and sensitive, should practice skin flooding. Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Cleanse

Start fresh. Use a gentle cleanser that does not strip your skin of its essential oils.

Step 2: Apply a Hydrating Serum

Always apply a hydrating serum on a damp skin to improve absorption. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid perfrom better when there's water to bind to.

Step 3: Add a Second Serum

If you're going all in, layer a second serum that has niacinamide. A second serum can act as a skin barrier and refine texture.

Step 4: Lock It With Moisturiser

Lastly, use a good moisturiser that suits your skin and seal all the hydration before it evaporates. While a second serum may be an option, a moisturiser isn't.
