If you didn’t already know she’s a dedicated skincare lover, and even endorses a global skincare brand, you’d probably believe Tamannaah Bhatia was simply blessed with great skin. Maybe she truly is, but it’s also true that she’s taken extremely good care of it for years now. You’ve got to do it when you’ve been facing the camera since your teens, yes, but you’ve also got to do it if you’re looking to age without losing your glow. And have you seen the glow on Tamannaah’s face? You don’t just get it that easily; if you do, it takes a lot of consistent work to keep it going. Probably why Shiseido signed her as their first-ever Indian ambassador.
Speaking of Shiseido, the actor was recently in Bangkok, Thailand, walking the red carpet for the brand, where we caught up with her on all things skincare & making it work for herself.
Edited excerpts:
Talk to us about Shiseido - what makes the brand such an important part of your self-care routine?
I think have constantly been innovating. For me, that aspect is the most exciting part. I've always been a consumer way before I became an ambassador and being the first Indian ambassador, what makes me really proud is the gaze that they have towards ageing because I feel like they have this understanding that we're all constantly evolving, not just externally but internally as well. To create something where the products actually help you through that evolution and are like a constant companion through that phase—I think that's what I really, really love and appreciate about Shiseido.
If you had to use just one Shiseido product for the rest of your life, which one would it be & why?
You know, of course, the Ultimune Serum is one of my favourites. It's like the face of what India really knows in terms of Shiseido. But for me, I really love the Activator. There are times I don't have the time and I have to rush out of my house, but I'll always put the Activator because I feel like it gives the face some sort of moisture. I have combination skin, so I have parts of my face that are slightly dry and parts that are slightly oily, so it works beautifully for my face.
What are a few daily rules & rituals you religiously follow to take care of your skin?
I think I'm extremely intuitive about my skincare. While I have a routine, I also kind of see what my skin has gone through because inevitably I have makeup on for like 14 hours of the day and I really want my skin to breathe. With the Ultimune Serum, I make sure that at night I definitely apply it after I've taken my makeup off because I feel like that's the time your skin gets to recover and breathe, away from makeup. On the days I feel like I can load on the serum during the day, I do it then as well, but night is something I try not to miss.
If you had to bust one skincare myth, what would it be?
I don't think the same rule applies for me and another person when it comes to skin because everyone has such uniquely different skin that it's really important to constantly see what's happening with your body. I feel like it's so internal also. Skincare comes in as that one constant step, whether you're taking perfect care of yourself through your water, your food, or your lifestyle. I think skincare is the one constant, so it's important that we address all of these for it to truly work and for your skin to look great.
Do you have any pet peeve when it comes to skincare?
I'm somebody who, the moment I see dry skin, I get anxious. I'm just like, "How do we hydrate?" I go into this massive zone of finding things to hydrate my face. That's what happens. I don't think what works for me is putting a lot of things on my face. I think consistently using one product works a lot better than trying a lot of products. Then you really get to see whether one product works on your face or not. So I try to use one product consistently, and I feel like that works for me very, very well.
