FOR A MAN IN HIS LATE THIRTIES and that’s as specific as I plan to get here— I’ve long been told I have exceptionally good skin. Better than most people my age, occasionally even those a decade younger. Which raises a fair question: why was I the ideal candidate to try a new facial treatment in town and write about it?
To quote my editor, “It’s about the story.” To quote Dr Kiran Sethi, Medical Director of ISYA Aesthetics & ISYA Active Longevity in New Delhi, it was about elevating my “absolutely fabulous skin”. And really, who says no to that?
Certainly not me. Which is how I found myself at the clinic one afternoon for the Exogenesis facial.
Let me give a quick rundown of the treatment. Exogenesis, an ISYA exclusive, combines vegan exosome technology with muscle stimulation and cryobreeze and is designed to help with skin repair and provide an almost-immediate radiance. Before you start to wonder, vegan exosomes are nano-scale cellular messengers derived from stem cells, so you can imagine both their potency and power.
The facial began with thorough cleansing, as is the case with every good facial, to remove impurities, dead skin cells, dirt and everything else. Next up was lymphatic drainage to drain all toxins from the lymph nodes, which was done through a cupping machine and turned out to be a lot more enjoyable than I had imagined. Lymphatic drainage tends to be a rather tedious process in most facials, but this one was rather quick and smooth.
This was followed by the application of a skin numbing cream for about ten minutes, as a preparation for the main part of the facial. The technology stimulates your facial muscles, especially around the jawline and cheekbones, as the vegan exosomes are powered through your cells, targeting your pores, fine lines, wrinkles, the works. Almost like energy forces rushing to and through your skin. It’s what also causes some amount of redness and/or puffiness after—which is why the next step in the treatment is needed.
If you’re aware of cryo in any form, you’d know just how cold it can get. Fortunately, this facial includes cryobreeze—you’ll just have ice-cold air blasted on your face for 3-4 minutes to help bring down the puffiness and temporary redness. At the risk of sounding rather weird, this was my favourite part of the entire facial, but that’s not to say you’ll enjoy it just as much.
What you’re certainly going to love, though, is how you look afterwards. A sharper jawline, lifted cheekbones and skin that appears to glow from somewhere beneath the surface. None of these, admittedly, have ever ranked particularly high on my list of skin concerns. But then again, who has ever objected to looking a little more lifted?
What surprised me was how quickly the results registered. There was a visible difference almost immediately, and a week later, as I write this, my skin still feels noticeably tighter. The aftercare was uncomplicated too: no face wash for 24 hours, being particular about sunscreen application, and a short pause on actives like retinol for three days.
Lifted, tighter, glowing skin? It turns out there’s no reason one can’t have all three.
