Here's How To Protect Your Skin & Hair When Playing Holi

Protect your skin and hair from colours and the damage they could cause!

The festival of colours might be all things joyous but for your skin & hair, things can get a tad bit troublesome. That is if you haven’t prepped well and in time, of course.

But before you let this stress ruin your Holi mood, worry not because the ‘preparation’ we’re talking about isn’t anything too time consuming or challenging. A simple pre and post-Holi skincare and haircare routine can help preserve your, well, skin and hair. Let us walk you through it.

Pre-Holi Skincare & Haircare

Before you step out to play Holi, it’s essential to prepare your skin and hair to cope with the damage from the colours you’ll be dealing with. Not to the mention all the exposure to sun, dust and other environmental factors.

Oil your hair the night before to help strengthen the roots and avoid breakage. And the next morning, don’t wash it off before stepping out. This will ensure all that colour doesn’t permeate deep enough – the oil will ensure the colour stays surface level making it easier for you to wash off with a shampoo.

As for your skin, again, use a good face oil, for the same reason.

Plus, apply a generous dosage of sunscreen because the sun will be out and so will you, in the open, for long hours.

Post-Holi Skincare & Haircare

Once you’re back, it should be all about cleansing, yes, but also replenishing your skin and hair since they would’ve been stripped off essential oils. Even your skin barrier would need some extra attention!

For the hair, it’s time to use a good shampoo that cleanses your hair and scalp but doesn’t come loaded with harmful ingredients like parabens. And once you’re done with the wash, you’ll need to use a good hair oil with all the right ingredients to bring back your hair to life. You could also use a conditioner, but a hair oil works better for both your scalp and the hair.

Now, let’s address your facial skin.

Needless to say, you’ll need a good cleanser to wash the colours (and dust, muck, etc.) off.

After that, we’d suggest using a face mask to exfoliate your skin from within and also help fight any colour/sun damage to your skin and its barrier. Use it for about 20-30 minutes and thoroughly wash it off after.

As the final step, nourish your skin with a good face moisturiser because colours are extremely drying and your skin will be moisture deprived for sure.
