Men and skincare treatments might seem like not a match made in heaven but in the real world, the marriage has been running quite successful for quite a few years.

Ever since metrosexual man paved the way for millennials and Gen Z to embrace their inner dandy du jour and Instagram brought the spotlight onto our selves (faces and pores in all their glory), men had no option but to embrace all things skincare like their life depended on it. We’re not talking about just using sunscreen when stepping out and a moisturiser at night – that’s for basic bros – but full blow non-surgical skincare treatments like Botox and fillers instead.

We knew you’d have questions about it – the whole what, how and when of it all. Which is why, we’ve gone ahead and had a detailed conversation on all things non-surgical skincare treatment with an expert. From busting myths to giving you the right information, here’s our conversation with Dr. Bindu Sthalekar, Celebrity Dermatologist, Trichologist & Cosmetologist and Founder & Chief Dermatologist, Skin Smart Solutions.

What are the most common non-surgical skin treatments men are opting for?

Men are becoming increasingly proactive about skincare, and we’re seeing more of them opting for non-surgical treatments that offer visible results without downtime. In their late 20s to early 30s, many men begin with chemical peels and laser toning to treat acne scars and pigmentation. By their mid-30s to 40s, Botox is use for softening frown lines and forehead creases—particularly for professionals in client-facing roles.

In their 40s and beyond, we often recommend a mix of skin boosters, PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) for skin and hair rejuvenation, and dermal fillers to restore lost volume and definition, especially around the jawline and under-eyes.

What are some of the most common myths around these treatments?
A few persistent myths still hold people back.

“Botox will freeze my face” Not true—when done right, it simply softens lines while keeping your expressions natural.

“Fillers make you look puffy or unnatural” Again, only if overdone or poorly placed. In skilled hands, fillers subtly enhance your features.

“Men don’t need skincare treatments” This one’s outdated. Male skin has different needs—thicker, oilier, and often more exposed to the elements. Treatments aren’t about vanity, they’re about smart, preventive care.

How is Botox different from fillers and how do the two work?
Botox and fillers often get lumped together, but they do very different things. Botox works by relaxing the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles—like forehead lines or crow’s feet. Fillers, on the other hand, are gel-like substances (usually hyaluronic acid) that add volume to areas that have lost fullness due to aging—such as under the eyes, cheeks, or jawline.

Think of Botox as smoothing motion lines, and fillers as restoring structure and volume. The best results often come from using them in combination.

What is the best anti-ageing treatment for men that you'd recommend and why?
There’s no one-size-fits-all, but Botox combined with skin boosters or fractional laser is a powerful combo. Botox softens lines, while boosters or laser treatments improve texture, tone, and firmness. These approaches work especially well for men because they offer subtle, natural-looking results while maintaining a rugged or sharp appearance—something most male clients prefer.

What is the average cost one must be prepared to spend when looking to get any non-surgical skin treatment?
Costs can vary depending on the clinic, location, treatment and expertise of the doctor. Here’s an average cost breakdown:

Botox: ₹10,000–₹18,000 per session
Fillers: Around ₹18,000
PRP: ₹6,000–₹12,000 per session

Laser treatments: ₹4,000–₹10,000 depending on area and type

Most treatments are spaced out, and a good dermatologist will recommend a plan that suits your skin, goals, and budget.

Is getting these treatments necessary if one wants to maintain a youthful appearance or can one just maintain an effective skincare regime and that would be enough?
A good skincare routine is your foundation—it goes a long way in preserving skin health. But at some point, lifestyle stress, sun exposure, and natural aging will catch up. That’s where non-surgical treatments come in. They complement your skincare regime by addressing deeper issues like volume loss, collagen decline, or pigmentation that products alone can’t reverse.

That said, treatments are a choice—not a necessity. If you start young with smart skincare and sun protection, you may delay the need for procedures. But when the time comes, these treatments can help you age well, not drastically.
