Mumbai to Hanoi in 5.5 Hours: IndiGo And Akasa Air To Make Hanoi A Non-Stop Travel Destination In 2026

With Akasa Air already flying from Mumbai to Hanoi starting September 4, 2026 and IndiGo joining the route in October 2026, getting to Vietnam's capital, Hanoi, is about to become considerably easier for Indians.

Vietnam has been having a moment with Indian travellers for a while now. But getting to its capital from Mumbai has typically involved the minor inconvenience of a connecting flight. That is about to change.

Here's what Indian travellers need to know about taking a direct flight from Mumbai to Hanoi

While Akasa Air began flying non-stop from Mumbai to Hanoi on September 4, 2026, operating four flights a week. From October 25, IndiGo will join the route with a daily direct service from Mumbai, giving travellers another option for getting to the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi without changing planes. IndiGo has already been flying passengers via non-stop flights connecting Delhi and Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City since December 20, 2025 which are daily services. Operated by the Airbus A320, the new route expands the airline’s Vietnam network and aims to boost tourism and business travel between India and Southeast Asia.

Previously, travelling to Vietnam meant taking a connecting flight which would easily make a journey from Mumbai to Hanoi close to 9 hours long. However, the city that makes an excellent base for exploring the limestone karts of Ha Long Bay to the rice terraces and mountain landscapes around Sapa and Ninh Binh, the journey to Hanoi is now cut down to merely 5.5 hours between the two cities. This means Indian travellers can now get more time to enjoy more time exploring Hanoi's atmospheric Old Quarter, French-colonial architecture, street-food culture and famously chaotic relationship with scooters.

If you're travelling before October 25, 2026, Akasa Air is the new direct option from Mumbai. Or you can also choose to travel with Vetjet which will take you around 4 hours 30 minutes between Mumbai airport to Hanoi airport, whereas from Kolkata the flight duration will further cut down to merely 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours and 4 hours, 10 minutes to 5 hours from Delhi on IndiGo aircraft.

However, if you're looking to travel to Vietnam during the Diwali break or afterwards, you have one more option to pick from. It is IndiGo offering a daily service. Of course, the smarter choice will ultimately come down to price, timings, baggage allowance and cabin preference and most importantly comfort overt loyalty to either airline.

For Indian travellers, however, the more interesting development is simpler: Hanoi is no longer quite as far away as it used to be. It is indeed a one flight away destination.

Indian passport holders still need a visa to enter Vietnam. The new direct flights don't alter the country's entry requirements, so make sure you have the appropriate Vietnamese visa before travelling and check the latest requirements before departure.
