Beyond Duty-Free Finds In Dubai

A guide to the homegrown labels, flavours and scents that define the city beyond its skyline

By Mayukh Majumdar | LAST UPDATED: OCT 28, 2025

While everyone loves some duty-free shopping while travelling, there's a different charm in buying local whenever you visit a new country. Not only does it help local businesses, it brings you closer to the culture. You come home with stories, souvenirs that linger long after you’re back.

If you’re headed to Dubai, you must try the viral “Dubai chocolate”, first created by homegrown brand Fix. Unlike most internet fads, this one’s worth the hype with a decadent chocolate shell and pistachio filling.

If you’re a fragrance aficionado, we don’t need to tell you to visit Ajmal Perfumes’ flagship outlet at Dubai Mall, the Camel Soap Factory, or Misk Al Khaleeji. Another must is a visit to the Spice and Textile Souks in the Deira and Bur Dubai districts to load up on frankincense, dried roses, saffron and pashminas.

These spots showcase Dubai’s cultural roots—proof that the city is more than just its gleaming skyscrapers and pothole free roads. But that’s just the beginning. Here’s our edit of homegrown Dubai brands to know.

The Espresso Lab

Founded in 2012 by Emirati entrepreneur Ibrahim Al Mallouhi, The Espresso Lab is celebrated for its speciality coffee, seasonal offerings and innovative brewing techniques. A must for Dubai’s coffee enthusiasts and those who feel a jolt through their spine when they hear the words “artisanal” and “limited release”.

Amongst Few

Dubai-born streetwear label that fuses Gulf heritage with global street culture. Beyond clothing, they run a café and concept space, embodying the city’s youthful, modern identity—a great place to make those rare friends who decide hiking is a great option for a Saturday morning.

Born Outside

A nod to Dubai’s global citizen appeal, Born Outside is a homegrown brand started in the city by two Italians who wanted less compromise and more comfort from their sneakers. It is the perfect brand for those who appreciate quality and clean execution without the loud logos and hype that brands tend to rely on.
