It's not easy being Lena Dunham.

There's never been a celebrity more polarising than her in the last decade or so. Even if you don't think she's the only one to hold that 'title', you can't deny that she's certainly one of the few people to evoke such strong reactions. Her work, social commentary, writing and interviews have all been dissected, discussed and debated enough and more times than one could imagine. From creating Girls (2012) to her now-defunct publication, Lenny Letter, and not to mention those paragraphs in her book, Not That Kind Of Girl: A Woman Tells You What She's "Learned" and her much talked about production, Orgasm Inc.: The Story of One Taste, anything that's associated with Dunham has rarely gone unnoticed or unscathed.

Which is why, when the trailer of her new Netflix series, Too Much, dropped a few weeks ago, there was enough chatter online to make even those living under a rock (metaphorically, of course) take a hard notice.

Was it received well? Or attacked by the trolls almost instantaneously? Umm... both!

Based or some may call it loosely-inspired on her own whirlwind romance with her now-husband, musician Luis Felber, Too Much is Dunham's first show as a director since the final episode of Girls in 2017. She's also co-written, co-created and executive produced it, which should tell you just how much of it seeks inspiration from the chronicles and chaos of her own London sojourn, the city in which the show's also set.

Too Much centres around Jessica (Megan Stalter) who movies to London after a bad break up in NYC with Zev (Michael Zegen). It doesn't help that Zev is now dating Wendy (Emily Ratajkowski) who's everything Jessica isn't, which is driving her nuts. It is in London that she meets Felix (Will Sharpe) and what follows is a whole new set of love. longing and laugh-out-loud moments with a side of chaos and confusion, of course. If the plotline sounds predictable, you aren't in the wrong. But if you know anything about Dunham's work, you'd know that she's always hoping you'd read between those predictable lines instead.

The show also features a host of guest stars, from Jessica Alba and Rita Ora to Kitt Harington and Andrew Scott. Not to mention Naomi Watts in a guest role that's sure to leave you happily surprised.

Dunham, herself, is a playing a role in the show too, though not as the character that's inspired by her. When you're writing, producing and directing something, you can't be expected to do the heavy lifting as an actor too, right? Though that's exactly what she did in Girls, but that's besides the point.

Those who loved Girls and have been patiently waiting for Dunham to come back to long-form storytelling have obviously been jumping with excitement. And those who weren't fans of the show or love to troll anything Lena Dunham have as-expected been quick to jump to the gun. Either way, since it's been too soon to say much else about the show, since it wasn't out all this while, the chatter had all been superficial, at best.

But now that the show is finally out on Netflix, it's going to be interesting to see if Too Much proves, well, too much for viewers or do they relate to Jessica's love, life and longing as much as they did with the girls in Girls. Needless to say, everyone's going to have an opinion about it, since it's Lena Dunham, after all.

You don't want to be left out. Might as well tune in?
