All The New Tamil And Telugu Originals Announced By Netflix
6 new movies and shows in Tamil and Telugu
Now that streaming has been around in India for almost a decade – 2016 is when Prime Video release its first-ever original, Inside Edge – most OTT platforms would’ve expanded their original programming to every part of the country. Unfortunately, it hasn’t happened for the most part yet. A few aberrations aside, most of our OTT originals have been from the Hindi film industry, but we’re happy to report that the tide has started to turn, finally.
Taking a break (if we can call it that) Netflix has, for instance, a spat of exciting new originals in both Tamil and Telegu, and each title is looking just as promising as the other. Because who said only Bollywood can produce great OTT movies and shows, right? We’re sure you’re curious to know so let’s get to it, right away.
New Netflix Original Movies and Shows in Tamil and Telugu
Stephen (Tamil)
Psychological thrillers always draw eyeballs, particularly on OTT, so it’s no surprise that Netflix is happy to commission more such projects. This one is directed by Mithun and features Gomathi Shankar in the lead role. The story is centred around a psychiatrist who interviews a man claiming to be a killer. We can’t wait to delve into it!
#Love (Tamil)
Don’t we all need to watch more love stories on OTT? Thankfully, the folks at Netflix get it. #Love is their newest offering, directed by Balaji Mohan and starring Arjun Das and Aishwarya Lekshmi in lead roles. This tale of two totally different people falling in love and traversing its tricky terrains is promising to be a fun take on modern-day romances.
Takshakudu (Telugu)
Thanks to films such as Kantara and those from Maddock’s horror-comedy franchise, stories around India’s folklore have certainly captured the audience’s imagination. And now comes this new one from Netflix, starring Anand Devarakonda who plays as a blind man embarking on a mission to avenge the mysterious deaths of the members of his village.
Super Subbu (Tamil)
And when you’re done with everything else, maybe it’s time to laugh a little. Netflix’s new comedy series might just help you do that. Sandeep Kishan plays as a man who accidentally lands a job teaching sex education in a remote village, that too when he isn’t qualified for the job. It's already sounding rather hilarious!
Made in Korea (Tamil)
It’s the Indian-Korean collaboration no one saw coming. Park Hye-jin (you’ll know him from Squid Game) makes his Tamil debut(?) with Made in Korea starring alongside Priyanka Mohan who plays a woman whose dream trip to Korea takes an unexpected turn after she experiences betrayal. We just can’t wait!
Legacy (Tamil)
It’s the big-budget, big star-cast series that you were expecting on this list. Starring R Madhavan, Nimisha Sajayan, Gautham Karthik, Gulshan Devaiah, and Abhishek Banerjee, this series is about power, crime and betrayal, and it’s the kind of show that no one can ever have enough of, right? Grab your popcorn and get ready for this family saga.
