The Best Movies About Sex

A not-so-subtle guide to the steamy side of the silver screen

By Rudra Mulmule | LAST UPDATED: SEP 26, 2025

Once upon a time, not too long ago, “sex” in Indian cinema was a dirty word. Literally. It was "S**", whispered like Voldemort's name at a family dinner. And we all know how directors got creative... flowers met each other in passionate pollen exchanges, candles blew out right on cue, and windows suddenly became the main characters of love scenes. The rest was left to your imagination (and a very confused pre-teen audience).

Cut to now, we’ve moved from euphemisms to Emraan Hashmi. The nation that once turned red at the sight of ankle exposure is now perfectly fine watching Lust Stories over dinner (with the volume turned down, of course, let’s not get too modern).

Today, sex in cinema is not just accepted, it’s practically its own genre. Whether you’re into yearning passion, forbidden lust, romantic flings, or just curious about what the fuss is all about, there’s a film out there for your mood. No judgement — whether you're watching alone, with your partner, or awkwardly with your parents because you forgot to vet the movie first.

So, here it is: a list of films that didn’t just throw in a steamy scene for views, they actually did something with it. These are the sexy, the sultry, the sensitive (and sometimes the just plain strange) films that made sex cinematic and at times scandalous.
