Is Timothee Chalamet The Mysterious EsDeeKid Rapper?

Those that have have gone down the random YouTube rabbit hole a few years ago may have stumbled upon Timmy Tim aka Timothee Chalamet's rap music video that gave us a glimpse into his rapping skills. A few years later, then 20 something Hollywood actor was scene playing piano effortlessly in Luca Guadgnino's Call Me By Your Name. And recently as Bob Dylan in the 2024 film A Complete Unknown.

The actor who has been promoting his upcoming release Marty Supreme, a sports-drama starring Chalamet, Tyler the Creator and Gwyneth Paltrow and revolves on the young Marty Mauser's dream of becoming a champion table-tennis player has found himself in a rather bizarre whirlwind of rumours. No, it isn't about his dating life while that may be a point of intrigue for a lot of the fans.

Rumour mill has it that Chalamet may be the man behind the mysterious rapper, EsDeeKid, who has been taking the internet by the storm. But first, who is this masked rapper that people can't stop talking about and what is his connection with Hollywood heartthrob?

Who Is EsDeeKid?

EsDeeKid is a Liverpool rapper who has recently come under the internet's radar after EsDeeKid was named one of the year's breakout stars in 2024 by Pitchfork following the release of the single "Bally" featuring Rico Ace. The rapper masked behind a balaclava has also released several tracks, including “LV Sandals,” “Phantom,” and “4 Raws,” all delivered in a pronounced Scouse accent. His face is always covered, revealing only his eyes, which has contributed to speculation about his identity. On TikTok, users have pointed to similarities between the rapper’s visible features and Chalamet’s, as well as reports that both have been seen shopping at the same London store.

The theory gained momentum after a TikTok creator suggested Chalamet attended a Fakemink concert in London—something the creator implied he would not normally do unless connected to the music scene. Others have argued that Chalamet, known for his interest in hip-hop, could plausibly explore music under a separate persona. So, is Chalamet launching his musical careers after successful performances in Wonka and Dune?

EsDeeKid’s online footprint, however, suggests an emerging artist whose presence predates the rumor. A BandLab page created in April 2024 lists his influences, including YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Xxxtentacion. He began posting on Tumblr in mid-2024, and his Letterboxd account, created this year, includes films unrelated to Chalamet. Moreover, A Cash App account lists the name “Damario Jones,” further complicating claims of a hidden celebrity identity.

Neither Chalamet nor EsDeeKid (that is if they are two different people) has addressed the speculation publicly. And to add further to the mystery representatives for the actor have not commented though in a latest viral video captured during Marty Supreme's promotions, the Hollywood hunk was seen responding to a fan with a wide smile who called him EsDeekid. Naturally, fans are all the more intrigued.

For now, EsDeeKid continues to promote his upcoming North American and Australian tour dates. Whether or not the rumors prove accurate, the attention has increased interest in both the artist and his music.
