Hanumankind Brings Heat To Coachella With His Debut

Indian-origin rapper Hanumankind brought raw bars, chenda drums, and desi pride to Coachella 2025

By Rudra Mulmule | LAST UPDATED: APR 25, 2025

Make no mistakes: Hanumankind's Coachella debut brought pure fire. No pyrotechnics. Just sonic booms from chenda drummers from Kerala slicing through the Californian desert.

Hanumankind's blistering debut joins the likes of Diljit Dosanjh and AP Dhillon- carving space for desi hip-hop on the global turf. Instead of a DJ lurking behind a laptop, with drummer Sange Wangchuk and guitarist Krishna M. Sujith, the Bangalore-born rapper filled the Mojave Tent with magnetic energy.

He rallied the crowd with his hit Run It Up, Go To Sleep, and everyone's favourite Big Dawgs - all raw and roaring, sweating and at one point shirtless.

Flaunting his talent, the Bangalore born rapper, Hanumankind spit Run It Up twice. Once with the live traditional beats of the drums and the studio banger that turned made pumped up the crowd. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Maxo Kream ghosted in to spit some rap alongside HMK- an unexcepted collab with a new track that slaps.

But here's the thing: Hanumankind's charisma is built on novelty. While other performances including Grammy Winner Charlie XCX  included surprise guests Billie Ellish and Troye Sivan to captivate the audience, power-packed sets by Missy Elliott, Megan Thee Stallion, Ed Sheeran, these performances were the usual suspects. What set HMK apart is his fresh bars, live beats that echoed in Mojave tent, and no chill energy whatsoever at the 2025 music festival.

Hanumankind’s debut at Coachella is landmark moment for Indian hip-hop highlighting the lyrical prowess that Indian artists hold. He isn't in for the gimmick; he is here to deliver genre-bending music. One that doesn't fit a western mold but doesn't scramble for it either. A true mark of independent artist that unhooks the stereotype around India music.Rather the chenda drums, back the powerful lyrics, presenting an unfiltered version of Indian rap and the hustle culture.

At the same time, it’s a cultural statement. A sign that our sound is ancient, alive, and unstoppable. For India, the performances by the likes of Hanumankind, Diljit Dosanjh, or AP Dhillon are not a sign of validation, these performances are about visibility. They own it, bend it, and make it sweat.

Set for two weekends, Coachella 2025 will be back on April 18-20 at Empire Polo Club, in Indio California.

Along with the first hip-hop artist to perform at Coachella, Hanumankind, electronic act Indo Warehouse will also be performing across two weekends at Coachella bringing dance, dhol drums, and collaborations during sets.
