Is War 2 The Year's Biggest Bollywood Movie?

Every time he’s on screen, you can expect nothing but pure fireworks!

Hrithik Roshan is that rare breed of actors who are both ginormous stars and incredible performers. Plus, those dancing skills ensure that you can’t ever look away. They truly don’t make ‘em like him anymore!

And now that he’s back, we’re sure, so will those crazy cues outside cinema theatres, when War 2 releases in August this year.

In the next chapter for his character as part of YRF’s Spy Universe, War 2 brings back Roshan as Major Kabir in yet-another globe-trotting mission. Joining him are Kiara Advani and Jr. NTR, in what’s promising to be the year’s biggest North-South collaboration already.

While Jr. NTR has so far been described as the prime antagonist, we’re sure there’ll be quite a few surprises when the movie releases. Not to mention hugely mounted action sequences with the two actors taking on each other, literally. There’s also a dance-off dance number with the two somewhere there as well, which only makes sense since both actors have proven their nimble feet in multiple movies already.

While everyone’s been quite mum about the movie and what it entails so far, the internet has been buzzing for quite a while regarding the various fan theories. Though the just-released teaser of the movie doesn’t exactly answer those questions, it definitely ups the ante and doubles the excitement.

Speaking to Esquire India for our launch issue cover story, back in January this year, Roshan had said, “I learned very early on that if I don’t feel it in my bones when I sign a film, it won’t translate well. I saw that correlation over and over. And since then, I’ve only been choosing films that spark something inside me”. Safe to say, War 2 ticks all those boxes and has certainly sparked immense joy within the actor. 

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, who’s quite adept at making big-ticket masala potboilers, War 2 is easily the year’s most awaited Hindi film release. While fans will be eager to see how the movie progresses YRF’s spy universe, they’ll also be lining up outside theatres across the country to witness two of the biggest stars – Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR – from the North and South to face off against each other. You’d think bringing two leading men of such calibre would be a no-brainer in these days of Pan India cinema but War 2 is the first time this is happening.

Expectations are sky high and the countdown has begun. Is this the biggest Bollywood outing of the year? Quite possibly, yes. Will it succeed at giving the audiences everything they’re expecting? We’ll find out during the Independence Day weekend when the film hits movie screens.
