Inside The World Premiere Of James Gunn's Superman

A sparkling Lois, a brooding Lex, and a kind Superman – is this the DC reset?

It was a balmy LA evening on Monday night and the spotlight was on James Gunn’s Superman, the upcoming first official film of DC Studio’s new chapter.

Held at the TCL Chinese Theatre – a spot soaked in Hollywood lore – the premiere marked the official launch of Gunn’s brand-new DC Universe. Chapter One, Gods and Monsters. Meanwhile, the red carpet turned into a fashion-forward celebration of nostalgia and rebirth, with serious Hollywood glamour.

David Corenswet (the new dashing Clark Kent who has us choked up over “Miss Lane” from the trailer) cut a striking figure in a Ralph Lauren Purple Label three-piece navy pinstripe suit. Sleek, sharp, and charmingly traditional, Corenswet’s look felt like a sartorial nod to the Clark Kent archetype—clean, composed, and quietly powerful. He was also accompanied by his wife, Julia Best Warner.

Meanwhile, Rachel Brosnahan, who steps into Lois Lane’s iconic shoes, shimmered in a custom Ralph Lauren Collection gown—a purple, backless cutout dress with glittering accents and sculptural drama. With her hair pulled into a low ponytail and silver starburst earrings framing her face, Brosnahan looked every bit the modern-day journalist heroine. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star was also joined by her husband Jason Ralph.

Nicholas Hoult, the film’s Lex Luthor, showed up in a blazer coupled with leather pants. He's acing the blonde look though.

Director James Gunn, meanwhile, kept it timeless in a black suit and silk shirt and tie, celebrating the moment with his wife Jennifer Holland.

William Reeve, son of the legendary Christopher Reeve, was also in attendance—a quiet, moving tribute to the legacy of the cape.

The cast has been traveling the world for the past few weeks on the Superman press tour, with stops in Paris, London, and New York City.

The film also stars Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Alan Tudyk as Superman Robot #4, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathon Fillion as Guy Gardner and more.

Gunn’s Superman isn’t just a new movie—it’s a reset button after a decade of DCEU misfires, rewrites, and awkward exits. Gone is the Snyderverse broodiness. In its place: a Superman story that’s supposedly warmer, weirder, and yes, more human.

Written and directed by Gunn, the film pulls heavily from All-Star Superman—Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s iconic, deeply philosophical comic series—and focuses on Clark’s internal tug-of-war between alien heritage and human upbringing. It’s part coming-of-age, part origin story, but less “how did he get his powers?” and more “what kind of man does he want to be?”

Early buzz has been cautiously optimistic. Gunn’s track record (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad) proves he knows how to juggle tone, ensemble casts, and emotional core—but Superman is a different beast. It’s mythic. It’s loaded. And it comes with more baggage than a Metropolis-bound Delta flight.

So, the verdict? TBD.

The film hits theatres and IMAX on July 11. And I’ll be watching.
