So, which one are you going to choose this time, between Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three? Because the wait for the final chapter of Denis Villeneuve's Dune trilogy is getting more difficult day by day.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Dune: Part Three, offering fans their clearest look yet at Paul Atreides' darkest chapter. Based on Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah, the film shifts away from the triumphant(if you can call it so) ending of Dune: Part Two and into a darker, more tragic story, where power comes with devastating consequences.

Set more than a decade after Paul's rise to the imperial throne, the trailer suggests that the greatest threat to the emperor may no longer come from the battlefield, but from the powers he himself holds. Check it out below.

The Trailer Teases Paul's Most Dangerous Battle Yet

The footage opens with a visibly exhausted Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), now carrying the burden of ruling a galaxy torn apart by holy war fought in his name. Although he says the future still speaks to him, his once-unmatched prophetic abilities appear to be fading, leaving him uncertain about what lies ahead.

The trailer introduces Robert Pattinson as the mysterious Scytale, one of the masterminds behind a conspiracy to overthrow Paul. Zendaya's Chani also takes centre stage, confronting Paul over the choices that drove them apart after his political marriage to Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh).

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the return of Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho. Despite Duncan's death in the first film, he returns as Hayt, a ghola created by the Tleilaxu with a mysterious purpose that could change Paul's fate forever.

Who's Returning For Dune: Part Three?

Much of the franchise's core cast is back for the finale. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Anya Taylor-Joy all reprise their roles.

Jason Momoa returns in the new role of Hayt, while Robert Pattinson joins the franchise as Scytale. Isaach de Bankolé is also among the major new additions.

Not every familiar face will return, however. Characters such as Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård), Feyd-Rautha (Austin Butler), Glossu Rabban (Dave Bautista) and Emperor Shaddam IV (Christopher Walken) are not expected to play significant roles in this chapter following the events of Dune: Part Two.

What Happens In The Dune: Messiah Book?

Warning: Heavy spoilers ahead

Dune: Part Three adapts Dune Messiah, Frank Herbert's 1969 sequel that picks up roughly 12 years after Paul Atreides becomes Emperor. His victory has come at a terrible cost, with a galaxy-wide jihad carried out in his name claiming billions of lives. Revered as a messiah by the Fremen, Paul finds himself trapped by the very destiny he once tried to avoid.

His rule is threatened by a powerful conspiracy involving the Bene Gesserit, the Spacing Guild and the Tleilaxu. Among its key players is Scytale, a Face Dancer sent to manipulate events and bring down the emperor. Princess Irulan, Paul's political wife and a member of the Bene Gesserit, secretly works with the conspirators while preventing Chani from becoming pregnant, fearing that an heir would cement Paul's dynasty.

The plot also introduces Hayt, a ghola of Duncan Idaho created by the Tleilaxu and gifted to Paul. While Hayt appears to be a loyal companion, he arrives with hidden programming that makes him one of the conspiracy's most dangerous weapons. As assassination attempts mount and Paul's prophetic visions become increasingly unreliable, he is forced to confront impossible choices that test both his humanity and his faith in destiny. Paul tries to make the best out of his situation, but by the end, a blind Paul retires, leaving his sister Alia to take the throne.

Dune: Part Three arrives in theatres on December 18, 2026, marking the conclusion of Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Paul Atreides' story.
