Why Fans Are Calling Out The Dhurandhar 2 Teaser

Talk about marketing gone wrong

The teaser for Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge dropped on YouTube this week, and instead of pure hype, it has sparked a wave of criticism online. Viewers were quick to point out that the so called new teaser offers no fresh material. What was framed as a first look at the sequel is the same clip many had already watched at the end of the first film during its theatrical run and later on Netflix.

The post credit's scene of the first Dhurandhar movie led to a lot of speculation for the sequel. What was Hamza's life before the mission like? How do Hamza and Major Iqbal end up as enemies? Where is Uzair Baloch? Why is Hamza the leader of the Rahman Dakait gang?

People hoped to get more clues into these questions from the teaser, but all they got were clips they have already seen. The visuals, edit pattern, and background score match the earlier clip beat by beat. From a young Jaskirat Singh Rangi's violent past before being recruited into the mission to the shot of him as Hamza, sitting on the same seat as Rahman Dakait in his meeting with the Balochs, the shots play out exactly as before, ending with Ranveer Singh’s line, “Ye naya Hindustan hai. Ye ghar mein ghusega bhi aur maarega bhi.” Even the background music, AAAHH MEN by Doja Cat, is reused here in the teaser.

The frustration online is less about the contents of the scene itself than it is about the Dhurandhar team's marketing strategy. Teasers are usually expected to expand the narrative or introduce a new hook without giving away the plot. Instead, the campaign just replayed shots that social media sleuths had already dissected to bits months ago.

The timing of the teaser also does not help. Dhurandhar had a 1000 crore strong theatrical run, and it shot to the top of viewing lists when it hit Netflix. With the OTT release, the movie hit and even larger audience, besides refreshing it for those who watched it in theatres two months back. Rereleasing the same material now, when the end credit scene is fresh on everyone's minds, has only brought the team closer to the line of fire of public scrutiny.

What is the release date of Dhurandhar Part 2

Even so, the conversation has put the sequel back in focus ahead of its March 19 release. The new poster featuring Ranveer Singh had already signalled the continuation of Hamza’s arc. The teaser may not have delivered new footage, but it has reignited debate around the character and where the story heads next.
