Creature features thrive on a simple fear that has been alive all through human history: what if we lose control over the natural world and fall prey to it? Whether it’s a genetically engineered animal, a prehistoric predator unleashed, or an anaconda lurking in the depths, the genre places people face-to-face with forces that few people would ever prepare to take on.

Bejoy Nambiar’s latest, Tu Ya Main, explores this kind of a situation. The film follows a rapper (Adarsh Gaurav) and an influencer (Shanaya Kapoor) whose getaway spirals into a fight for survival when they find themselves trapped in a drained pool with a crocodile.

These kinds of stories, of course, are much underexplored in mainstream Indian cinema. There have been scattered attempts, which makes entries like Tu Ya Main feel even more refreshing, now that it’s available on Netflix for streaming.

That said, if the man-versus-nature conflict of the movie worked for you, here are some of the best ones to watch next.
