7 Quirky Documentaries For Men Who Think They Don't Like Them
From political satires to people diving into fetish rabbit holes, this list has a little bit of everything
For most people, the word documentary usually conjures images for Animal Planet and heavy political topics debated by history professors and conspiracy theorists.
I wouldn't lie, until recently, I belonged to this list too. Documentaries, for the most part, felt like a movie genre that demanded levels of nerdism that I haven’t been able to achieve (yet). After all, if there's no fictional story involved in the feature film sense, wouldn't it be boring unless you're a fan of the topic?
Turns out, that need not be the case, actually. Documentaries can be fun, hilarious even. Even if they're not outright comedies, the ones mentioned below deserve a watch simply because of their unique premise and hilarious takes. From questions like what does it mean to adopt a pet chicken in a meat-eating family to who owns an amputated leg, the following movies break long-standing genre stereotypes. Check them out below.
Tungrus
Set in a Delhi-based Indian family, where the patriarch buys a live rooster as a pet. But here's the twist: this is a non-vegetarian family, and the bird proves to be an absolute nuisance, albeit an endearing one.

Please Vote For Me
In a primary school in Wuhan, China, what begins as a routine class monitor election quickly escalates into a ruthless campaign. Children employ emotional manipulation, strategic alliances, and heavy parental involvement to win the election, and before long, you can't help but draw a parallel between the kids’ classroom and real world politics.

Hands on a Hardbody
PSA for the filmbros: this is one of Quentin Tarantino's favourite documentaries. At a Nissan dealership in Longview, Texas, a group of strangers signs up for an endurance contest that sounds simple enough: keep one hand on a pickup truck and outlast everyone else. As hours blur into days, exhaustion breeds confession, rivalry, and emotional collapse, turning a marketing gimmick into a strangely intimate and often funny study of desperation and grit.

Tickled
What looks like a goofy tickling fetish video turns into a legal nightmare the moment a journalist starts asking too many questions. Threats fly, emails spiral, and the film becomes funny purely because no one involved can take a joke.
