Mo Salah's 10 Greatest Liverpool Moments, As His Anfield Era Comes to an End

What a glorious reign

By Aditi Tarafdar | LAST UPDATED: MAR 25, 2026

When Mohamed Salah was inducted into the Time 100 list in 2019, comedian John Oliver wrote in his feature, "Mo Salah is a better human being than he is a football player. And he's one of the best football players in the world." It was a line that captured the duality of Salah's global reputation at the peak of his Liverpool years: a superstar forward rewriting Premier League records, and at the same time a figure with such influence that his joining Liverpool reduced racial crime in the city by 16%.

As Salah prepares to leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025–26 season after nine transformative years, that description feels even more fitting, framing a career that reshaped both the club's history and his own legacy.

Salah leaves as Liverpool's all-time top Premier League goalscorer and the highest-scoring African player in the competition's history, with 189 of his 191 league goals coming in red. Sure, his final campaign has been marked by speculation about his next destination and a dip in form that has coincided with Liverpool's own inconsistency. Still, legacy is rarely shaped by the ending alone. It is built on nights when the Kop roared, on goals that shifted title races, and on performances that left even rivals in reluctant admiration. As Salah's Anfield chapter closes, these moments stand as the clearest measure of what he gave the club that will be remembered years down the line.

Goal vs Chelsea, 14 April 2019

Salah's thunderous long-range strike against Chelsea at Anfield will always be one of his greatest: facing intense racial hatred from fans and playing against the club that once considered him expendable, he unleashed a swerving strike into the top corner past Kepa Arrizabalaga to seal a 2–0 win, a goal that symbolised both personal vindication and Liverpool'ss relentless pursuit of Manchester City that season.

Alisson Assist And The Title-Winning Chant vs Manchester United, 19 January 2020

Deep into stoppage time at Anfield, goalkeeper Alisson Becker collected the ball and launched a long throw that sent Salah sprinting clear through midfield. Salah ran the length of the pitch before finishing past David de Gea to seal a 2–0 win over Manchester United. This led to the Kop erupting with the "Now you’re gonna believe us, we’re gonna win the league,” chant, capturing the inevitability of Liverpool'ss first league title in 30 years.

Redemption Penalty In The Champions League Final vs Tottenham, 1 June 2019

A year after leaving the Kyiv final in tears after his injury against Real Madrid, Salah had a chance for redemption in Madrid. He converted a second-minute penalty with power and precision past Hugo Lloris, giving Liverpool an early lead in a 2–0 victory and completing a personal arc that transformed heartbreak into European glory.

Breaking Robbie Fowler's Record vs Manchester United, 5 March 2023

Salah became Liverpool’s all-time leading Premier League goalscorer in emphatic fashion during a 7–0 demolition of Manchester United at Anfield, scoring twice to move past Robbie Fowler’s long-standing record of 128 goals. Achieving the milestone against Liverpool’s greatest rivals added extra resonance, reminding everyone how consistently he had delivered across multiple title challenges and eras of the squad.

Hat-trick at Old Trafford vs Manchester United, 24 October 2021

Salah delivered one of the most brutal individual performances in Premier League rivalry history by scoring a hat-trick in Liverpool’s 5–0 win at Old Trafford. His treble made him the first opposition player to score three league goals at the stadium in the Premier League era, and doing it against Liverpool’s fiercest rivals cemented his status as a generational forward at the peak of his powers.

Champions League Semi-Final Masterclass vs Roma, 24 April 2018

Facing his former club in the first leg at Anfield, Salah delivered a performance that elevated him into the global elite. He scored twice and assisted twice in a 5–2 win, including a delicate chip over Alisson Becker, dismantling Roma’s defence and effectively sending Liverpool to their first Champions League final in over a decade.

Puskás Award Winner vs Everton, 10 December 2017

The Merseyside derby often thrives on chaos rather than elegance, but Salah’s equaliser in a 1–1 draw at Anfield was pure artistry. Cutting inside from the right, he skipped past two defenders and curled a left-footed strike into the top corner, a goal that later won the FIFA Puskás Award and became one of the most replayed strikes of his career.

Four Goals vs Watford, 17 March 2018

Salah’s first Liverpool season reached its peak during a 5–0 demolition of Watford at Anfield, where he scored four and assisted another in one of the most complete individual Premier League performances of the modern era. The fourth goal, which saw him glide past the goalkeeper after a clever feint, summed up the composure and balance that made him almost impossible to defend that year.

Counter-Attacking Goal vs Arsenal, 27 August 2017

In just his second home league game, Salah produced a goal that previewed the Liverpool attack at its most devastating. Collecting the ball after an Arsenal corner, he sprinted from his own half with defenders chasing helplessly before finishing in front of the Kop in a 4–0 win, a moment that convinced Anfield they were watching something special unfold.

Debut Goal vs Watford, 12 August 2017

Salah wasted no time introducing himself to English football, scoring on his Premier League debut in a chaotic 3–3 draw at Vicarage Road. The finish itself was simple, a close-range touch after smart movement. Still, it signalled the success of the insane 36.5 million deal that Liverpool had signed with the former Chelsea player, setting the tone for what would become a record-breaking first season in England.
