Saregama And Bhansali Productions Announce Strategic Partnership
The partnership unites Bhansali Productions’ distinctive cinematic storytelling with Saregama’s leadership in music and live events to shape a next-generation entertainment house.
Saregama India Ltd, India's oldest music label and leading entertainment company and Sanjay Leela Bhansali Productions have unveiled a strategic partnership anchored by a significant equity investment, marking a defining moment for India's media and entertainment landscape.
Announced on Tuesday, the collaboration signals a shared ambition to build a next-generation entertainment studio that seamlessly blends creative excellence with commercial scale. The partnership brings together Bhansali Productions' globally acclaimed cinematic storytelling with Saregama India Ltd's leadership across live entertainment and music.
With fresh capital in place, Bhansali Productions will expand its film and series slate across formats while retaining full ownership of its intellectual property, reinforcing its long-term vision of a world-class, creator-led studio. Moreover, as part of the partnership, Bhansali Productions will exclusively sell all its future film music to Saregama, based on a pre-agreed formula. This structure guarantees Saregama a steady pipeline of premium, marquee film music, eliminating competitive bidding, thereby securing long-term market share in new music and controlling acquisition costs. Aligned with its evolving content strategy, Saregama will gradually streamline its in-house film production activities over the next 1–2 years, focusing instead on such strategic partnerships.
Founded in 1996, Bhansali Productions is recognised globally for its distinctive visual language and cultural impact, with landmark titles including Devdas, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, Gangubai Kathiawadi and the Netflix hit series Heeramandi. The studio currently has more than ten feature films planned over the next three years, with immediate projects including Love and War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, and Do Deewane Shehar Mein, directed by Ravi Udyawar.
Reflecting on the partnership, Avarna Jain, Vice Chairperson of Saregama India Ltd, said, "This partnership underscores Saregama’s strategy of aligning with India’s finest creative minds while delivering long-term value to shareholders. Bhansali Productions’ excellence in storytelling and content creation perfectly complements our leadership in music and entertainment."
While Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Founder of Bhansali Productions, noted that powerful and meaningful cinema requires time, trust and a deep respect for the creative process. He said," In Saregama, we have found a partner that understands this philosophy. We share a deep respect for art, music, and storytelling that is both grounded in tradition and resonates with audiences across generations."
Under the partnership framework, Bhansali Productions will retain full creative control, while Saregama will provide governance oversight and financial discipline, a structure designed to align artistic ambition with sustainable, institutional growth.
