We are so back

The moment we have waited for years is finally here. BTS returned to the stage as a full group with a free comeback concert in Seoul, the first stop in their upcoming world tour. The event, staged at Gwanghwamun Square and streamed live worldwide on Netflix, drew an estimated 260,000 people on site, with millions more tuning in digitally.

The hour-long concert also coincided with the release of the group’s tenth studio album, Arirang, which smashed records even before its first live performance. The album surpassed 4 million pre-orders within a week and sold nearly 4 million copies on its first day.

The concert that followed an album this big was just as well thought out. Here are the details from BTS' Comeback Concert that you missed if you didn’t look closely.

Why BTS Chose Gwanghwamun Square For Their Comeback Concert

The Bangtan boys performed at Gwanghwamun Square, entering the photo-frame-shaped stage via the historic King’s Road. Set against the backdrop of Gyeongbokgung Palace and centuries-old monuments, the location is traditionally associated with Korean national identity, royal ceremonies, protests, political gatherings, and national celebrations. Hosting a concert there marked the first time the site had been used for a standalone performance of this scale. Concert director Hamish Hamilton, known for overseeing Super Bowl halftime shows and the Academy Awards, also had palace gates lit up with layered LED screens for a special sound and light show during the Korean segment of Arirang’s first song, Body to Body

The Black-and-White Comeback Outfits

All seven members wore variations of monochromatic black-and-white outfits that blended flowing silhouettes with structured tailoring. The styling subtly referenced traditional Korean Hanboks while staying within the group’s modern performance identity. Official designers for the outfits is yet to be revealed.

The Full BTS Comeback Concert Setlist: All Songs Performed At Gwanghwamun

RM’s opening line, “Annyeong Seoul, we’re back,” drew one of the loudest reactions of the night, and marked the beginning of a new era for fans who have waited through military enlistments, solo projects, and years of uncertainty.

The set started with Body to Body as the opening number. In keeping with Arirang’s theme of BTS returning to their roots, the song samples the traditional folk tune Arirang, widely regarded as Korea’s unofficial national anthem.

What followed was a balance of new material with older hits. As J-Hope said, this is BTS 2.0. Following Body to Body, the group performed the top tracks from Arirang, such as Hooligan, 2.0, and the title track SWIM, followed by crowd favourites like Butter and Mic Drop. And yes, in keeping with tradition, Yoongi dropped his mic at the end of the song.

This was followed by the rest of the Arirang songs, including Aliens, FYA, Like Animals and Normal.

The encore choice of Mikrokosmos brought the reunion narrative back to its emotional core: the relationship between BTS and their fans. If you have followed BTS for years, you would know how special Mikrokosmos is to the fandom and for group’s concert performances. So closing with it was an emotional nod to the journey that BTS and ARMY have undergone for the past twelve years.

Leader RM Performed Despite An Ankle Injury

If you missed the news, BTS leader RM aka Kim Namjoon injured his ankle during rehearsals just one day before the concert. Many fans expected him to opt out of the comeback. However, RM performed nevertheless, sitting on a stool at the side with a cast on his foot while the choreography was adjusted around him. If you were only casually watching, you might not have noticed how much the group adapted on the fly to keep the performance smooth.

As you read this, the concert has already gone down in history as the largest public concert ever held in South Korea, while the Netflix livestream continues to shatter more records. The concert is currently available to stream on Netflix, while the groups tenth album Arirang, is now streaming across all music platforms.
