With billions of dollars of Take-Two Interactive money, plus huge amounts of console makers like PlayStation and Xbox, riding on its fate, not to mention their brands' images, GTA 6 release date has created an immense amount of pressure on CEO Strauss Zelnick. This is so especially after he had to walk back on already-announced launch dates on a numbetr of occasions. With fans growing increasingly restless and other game-makers looking to take advantage, GTA 6, which is widely expected to be the best-selling game of all time, has been bleeding money non-stop after announcing delays. And notably, the game, already years in the making, with GTA 5 having been launched overa dozen years ago, the window of opportunity, is gradually closing.
Now, Rockstar Games, of which Take-Two is the parent, is a notoriously secretive company. Just like another such tech major - Apple. However, even Apple does not brook delays. In fact, getting products out on time, means making use of the best opportunity in an ideal way. The alternative is a big loss. Just ask Samsung, which delayed its Samsung Galaxy S26 smartphone launch to March only to see Apple iPhone 17 run away with its lunch.
Looking to calm the markets (Take-Two is listed), the industry and the fans too, CEO Zelnick took to a public platform, and said that the original GTA 6 release date may well have been November 2024, but considering that the final touches were not in place, the delay was inevitable. However, he added that the game will definitely launch in 2026 - the company itself has announced the date as November 19, 2026.
Zelnick was pointedly asked about a GTA 6 delay in a podcast with David Senra, but he was adamant that the company would stick to the already-announced schedule.
While the launch date is still some 6 months away, what fans, and much of the industry, especially PlayStation and Xbox, are looking for Take-Two to immediately do is announce GTA 6 preorders. The much-speculated date is May 18, as per a leaked email attributed to PlayStation. But chances of that appear slim now.
Not just that, fans are also expecting GTA 6 trailer 3 release too. This time they expect it to provide a peek into the upcoming game's gameplay, which till now, has remained a well-guarded secret.
