GTA 6 On PS5: 60 fps Or 30 fps?

Is Rockstar tuning GTA 6 performance on PS5 around a fixed 30fps cadence rather than chasing the astonishing smoothness of 60fps? Know what GTA 6 reportedly picked.
GTA 6 PS5 Rendering
So, is Rockstar tuning GTA 6 performance around a fixed 30fps cadence rather than chasing 60fps smoothness? Analysts had suggested GTA 6 on PS5 may render at 60fps rather than the good old 30fps.Rockstar Games

Rockstar spent over a dozen years cooking up the GTA 6 game, and the internet spent just 30 seconds asking, 'But does it run at 60fps?' Typical. Well, did Rockstar just pick smoothness over spectacle? The GTA 6 Extended Look dropped on Netflix with 27 minutes of footage gorgeous enough to make jaws drop and framerate purists panic in equal measure. The verdict is not the one that many console gamers were hoping for, but the reasoning behind it might just make peace with the disappointment. The question is: Will GTA 6 on PS5 be rendered at 60fps that many fans were hoping for, or the old 30fps? The GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix may have let the cat out of the bag and there is even an official confirmation of sorts.

GTA 6: 30fps Or 60fps on PS5?

The verdict seems to be clear. Rockstar has plumped for 30fps. This is not because Rockstar stumbled into it - it deliberately built the entire game around 30fps and not 60fps. Quality, though, remains top-class. It is believed that every ounce of rendering, simulation, and presentation muscle has gone into maximising visual density at 30 frames per second rate, and the trade-off shows up in quality. A report by Flow Games claims Rockstar exec Rob Nelson has confirmed GTA 6 will render at 30fps. As far as whether GTA 6 at 60fps can be rendered, he said the Rockstar tehnical staff will need to be consulted.

Still, the end result is impressive even at that rate. The character work backs this up - skin shading is convincing enough to sell sweat and make-up, and hair simulation is good enough that Lucia's locks snap back and move with actual realism, something GTA 5 never quite nailed.

Expect some softness on exceptionally tough details, though notably, there will likely be none of the frame-rate stutters on GTA 6, unlike what haunted past GTA launches.

GTA 6 At 60fps: Console Says No, PC Remains A Question Mark

A 60fps GTA 6 console version is unlikely as Rockstar may have balanced CPU and GPU workloads so tightly that there is simply no room left to chase a better rate. However, GTA 6 at 60 fps on PC stays a cautious maybe. GTA 6 launch on PC may happen in 2027 or later. It may give Rockstar more time to build a 60fps GTA 6. However, GTA 6 at 60fps on PC will remain a genuine challenge even then.

Rockstar picked density over speed for GTA 6 at 30fps, and going by the Extended Look footage, it is a trade-off most will not mind making.
