GTA 6 Leaks By CyberLeek Lose Their Aura After Being Dubbed 'Nothing Burger'?

Every few months the internet convinces itself GTA 6 is either cancelled, delayed till 2027, or somehow, both at once. And then there are the GTA 6 leaks. The latest one has revealed gameplay video clips, maps, and perhaps, the whole 9 yards. This is courtesy an aptly named leaker called CyberLeek. However, as things stand, Take-Two Interactive has already lawyered up over it. And now a former Rockstar insider has stepped in with the internet equivalent of a shoulder shrug: relax, it is nothing. Obbe Vermeij, in fact has gone a step further and dubbed the recent GTA 6 leaks as 'nothing burger'. He also indicated there is no panic at Rockstar over the leaked video clips.

CyberLeek dropped GTA 6 video clips last week, complete with maps and gameplay snippets, right as the internet was gearing up for the extended look of the game on Netflix slated for August 27. 

Take-Two did not waste time. The company subpoenaed Microsoft, Discord, and GitHub over what it is calling 'stolen content', which, translated from legal-speak, basically confirms at least some of the leaked material is real.

For GTA 6, which has spent over a decade being the favourite guessing game on the Internet, any confirmed leak, however small, was always going to set off alarm bells. Except, apparently, inside Rockstar itself.

Enter Obbe Vermeij, former technical director at Rockstar North, who took to X with the kind of calm only someone who has actually worked on these games could manage. "Calm down everybody," he wrote, "the leaks are a nothing burger,". It is a phrase that is now doing the rounds faster than the GTA 6 leaks of video clips by CyberLeek themselves.

The argument put forth by Vermeij is refreshingly simple: Rockstar just keeps things under wraps longer than most publishers, so when footage does slip out, it looks like a bigger deal than it actually is. According to him, 90% of the people who will eventually play GTA 6 are not spending their evenings hunting down blurry video snippets on shady forums; they do not have the time, and frankly, they don't want the spoilers either.

He figures the internal reaction is closer to mild irritation than outright panic, adding that the teams at Rockstar are "a little annoyed" at most at this intrusion on their time. His closing argument doubles as a forecast: GTA 6, he predicts, is shaping up to be phenomenal, with a shelf life stretching 15 years or more.

So, while the internet keeps doomscrolling through the GTA 6 leaks, one of the few people who is actually seen how the sausage gets made is essentially saying: save the panic, it is a nothing burger, something insignficant and totally lacking in substance whatsoever.
