Jacob & Co.’s New Epic X Mahadev Edition Puts Lord Shiva At the Centre of A 44mm Titanium Watch

Jacob & Co. has added another distinctly Indian chapter to its collection of extravagant timepieces. Of the many watches inspired by Hindu symbolism and mythology, Jacob & Co's latest Epic watch is a Mahadev edition.

Unveiled online on September 16, the luxury watchmaker’s latest creation is the Mahadev tourbillon, a watch centred on one of the most recognisable representations of Lord Shiva. Available exclusively through Ethos Watches Boutique, the Epic X Mahadev Edition brings Lord Shiva into the brand’s world of skeletonised dials, titanium cases and high-energy mechanical watchmaking.

The watch is housed in a 44mm titanium case, keeping the large format of the Epic X collection while giving the timepiece a lightweight, technical character. Through the openworked dial is Jacob & Co.’s manual-winding JCAM02 skeleton calibre.

The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 48-hour power reserve. Rather than hiding the mechanics behind a conventional dial, the skeleton construction makes the movement part of the visual experience—appropriate for a watch whose design is built around the symbolism of Mahadev.

At 44mm, the watch is unapologetically substantial, but it is the dial that does most of the talking. Inspired by Mahadev, the skeletonised display brings together imagery associated with Lord Shiva including his trishul, damru and the sacred Om symbol, while the inscription Om Namah Shivaya sits at the 6 o’clock position.

The watch also takes a distinctly contemporary approach to the religious imagery. Blue Super-LumiNova accents illuminate elements of the dial in the dark, giving the intricate composition a second life after sunset.

The timepiece arrives in India exclusively through Ethos, continuing Jacob & Co.’s recent push towards watches that draw directly from Indian culture and symbolism. However, the price is currently publicly unavailable.

The brand has previously created India-specific pieces celebrating the Ram Mandir and Sikh heritage, while its wider Indian portfolio includes the elaborate and one of a kind watch Opera Godfather Baguette “Shiva” custom-made for Indian billionaire Anant Ambani.
