Casio’s latest MTP-E740 series has officially landed in India in its entirety. The collection brings together five stainless steel watches, each distinguished by a translucent dial that reveals the watch's day and date wheels beneath the surface. At ₹6,995 a piece, the range sits comfortably in the affordable watch category, but its colourful, slightly unconventional design gives it more character than the usual everyday timepiece.
The Casio MTP-E740 range made its Indian debut in stages, with the orange MTP-E740-4AV and navy MTP-E740-2A1V appearing first. The remaining models have now joined them, making all five colourways available to shoppers in India.
The lineup includes the MTP-E740-1AV in brown, MTP-E740-2A1V in navy blue, MTP-E740-2A2V in bright blue, MTP-E740-3AV in teal and MTP-E740-4AV in orange. Despite the different dial colours, the watches share the same stainless steel construction and overall design.
When you look at the piece first, the proportions and make of the watch resemble that of a fairly traditional dress - casual watch. When you look at the details of the dial, it explains a little more about the mechanics behind it.
The translucent dial construction allows the mechanisms behind the day and date display to remain visible, making what would usually be a functional detail part of the watch’s visual identity.
It is a small design decision, but one that gives the collection a more playful feel without moving too far away from Casio’s classic aesthetic.
The concept also recalls the transparent-dial watches that emerged in the 1970s, including Seiko’s Time Sonar designs. Casio’s interpretation feels distinctly contemporary, using colour to bring the retro-inspired idea into a more modern setting.
All five MTP-E740 models are priced at ₹6,995 in India. That puts the collection firmly in the accessible end of the watch market, while the stainless steel construction and unusual dial design give it an identity beyond a straightforward everyday watch.
The choice between the models is therefore largely a question of colour. The brown version offers the most restrained take, while the navy and bright blue options keep things classic with a little more colour. Teal sits somewhere between understated and playful, while the orange model is the most attention-grabbing of the five.
The MTP-E740 is aimed at the wearer who wants the familiarity of a conventional analogue watch without settling for an entirely conventional dial. Its relatively accessible price also makes the collection easy to approach as a second watch, particularly for anyone who wants to experiment with colour.
