The ace cricketer on his capsule collection with HUEMN, personal style, playing the IPL and handling high pressure situations on the field
Middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer is on ‘cloud nine’ after Team India won the ICC Champions Trophy, beating New Zealand in a nail-biting final. Iyer, who ended up being India's leading scorer, with 243 runs in five matches was termed the ‘X factor' for his knockout performance.
While Iyer is best known for his cricketing chops, he's also a style icon who aces everything from prints, casual wear and the coolest sneakers. His latest collaboration with HUEMN on a capsule collection celebrates the Mumbai cricketer’s winning mindset through the SI graphic, Fire and Thunder motifs and his iconic jersey number ‘96’.
In an exclusive chat with Iyer, Esquire India discusses his collaboration with HUEMN, style evolution, and of course, cricket.

What led you to collaborate with HUEMN on the capsule collection?
The HUEMN X Shreyas Iyer collection is all about high energy, bold expression, and individuality. It’s a reflection of my personality—driven, fearless, and always evolving. I have always admired the brand for its unique approach to fashion. Their signature oversized fits and strong design aesthetic have a distinct presence among the youth, which resonates with my style.

How has your style evolved over time?
I believe in versatility and my wardrobe reflects that. Over time, I have grown more experimental but one thing has remained constant—confidence in what I wear. I like making my own statements, blending trends with a touch of personalisation.

Do you believe sports and fashion are a match made in heaven?
Absolutely. Both are about self-expression, confidence and pushing boundaries. Just like in sports, where you bring your own technique and style to the game–fashion is about making a statement that’s uniquely yours. I see them as powerful extensions of personality and mindset.

Since you are an accomplished dancer, do you believe it helps in your footwork against spinners?
(Laughs) Maybe! Footwork in both dance and cricket requires rhythm, balance, and control. Being light on my feet has always helped my game, especially against spinners. I think anything that improves your coordination and movement can translate into better performance on the field.

How has IPL contributed to your overall development as a cricketer?
IPL has been a game-changer. Playing alongside and against some of the best in the world has sharpened my skills, strengthened my mindset and given me the exposure to handle high-pressure situations. It has taught me adaptability, quick decision-making and the importance of always staying ahead of the game.

What's your strategy to handle high pressure situations on the field?
I focus on staying in the moment. Pressure is part of the game– the key is to channel it into performance rather than letting it overwhelm you. I trust my preparation, back my instincts and keep a clear mind. Staying calm, composed, and believing in my abilities helps me deliver when it matters the most.
